Good news from would-be president Martin O’Malley: “WiFi is a human right”
Hotair ^ | 10/08/2014 | AllahPundit

Reading this made me feel like Ron Burgundy listening to Baxter tell him he ate a whole wheel of cheese: I’m not even mad. It’s amazing.

Jon Ward of Yahoo News wonders if the next human right is the right to Frosted Flakes.

“Baby boomers and older were often told that if we specialize in terms of our skills, we will be more secure and prosperous, that the definition of ‘making it” was living out in the suburbs as far way as possible with the biggest lawn possible,” he said. “Young people have flipped that on its head. Younger people are choosing to live in cities. They realize that connections to each other are making us better. That WiFi is a human right. That proximity is important to entrepreneurship, access to capital and talent and diversity. There is an opportunity there for us as a nation to embrace that new perspective.”

I don’t follow Maryland politics so I can’t say whether O’Malley might be capable of believing something this stupid on the merits. Let’s be charitable, then, and assume that it’s just his goofy way of getting liberals’ attention while he’s busy trying to decide whether to primary Hillary. The point isn’t really to propose WiFi as a human right, it’s to signal in an unusually clumsy way that he’s to the left of the Clintons; and since it’s young progressives who are most likely to drive a left-wing primary challenge to Hillary in 2016, it’s young progressives whom he’s most eager to pander to. He did something similar on immigration a few months ago. At the height of the border crisis, Hillary called for sending young illegals back to their families in Central America as soon as possible after they crossed the border. O’Malley pounced on that, arguing that we should give them every procedural opportunity to make their case for asylum in the U.S. Maybe that’ll win him one percent of the Latino vote against her instead of the expected zero. And hey, if Clinton ends up passing for whatever strange, surprising reason, this sort of hyper-progressive slobbering will leave O’Malley well positioned in the primaries — until Elizabeth Warren jumps in and sends him to the back of the pack again.

Exit question: Why not Vice President Martin O’Malley? He sounds right for the part.

O’Malley makes Obama look like less of an empty suit.
Couldn’t even imagine that was possible.

I agree. Many other “gov’t “rights”” need to be terminated though.

I remember when Bill White ran for the mayor’s office in Houston. He said that he was hoping for everyone to have free high-speed internet, i.e., either DSL or Cable. His next statement was that he hoped that the business community would step up and provide it! This guy says things dumber than Bill White could say. ;-)

Young people want to live in cities because they are scared of real life. They want their favorite little bistro to be within walking distance. They want easy access to clubs and drugs. They are just plain scared of having to do anything on their own besides walk or bike to their graphic designer job.

Plus, I hear tell there are scary Republican rednecks out in the sticks. Some of those folks even have guns and...*Gulp*...Bibles!

Take it from me. Living in Maryland is a nightmare in regards to politics and taxes. O’Malley is 99 percent reason for this. He is such an idiot. Raised the gas tax while we were paying historic gas prices. Rain tax now for everyone. It is crazy around here. I am glad to know that I won’t have to pay Verizon anymore since WIFI is a right. I assume that it will be free. That is quite a break for all of us.....lol. He will probably make us pay even more now since it is a right.

If you have a right to have your sodomy sanctioned and subsidized by your neighbors, why not internet access?

O’Malley fancies himself the next JFK — a thru-and-thru Democrat “Catholic”, only his roots are in DC/MD and not Boston. Hey, these days, that makes him all the more legit to the Lefty crowd. Still — I’ll be surprised if he makes it to the White Hut. I can’t see the Dems nominating ANY straight white guy for the foreseeable future.

Let’s face it, the ‘inner cities’ are real cesspools, otherwise such things as film noir would have nothing to build storylines from!

I’ve lived ‘in the Greater Portland Area’, and worked in the downtown district. Would I live in the downtown district? NO! For personal safety, even before 2000, it was advisable to end your business day by 5PM, and get out of there!

Living out beyond Northeast 99th Street, brings you to a point where you are part of Portland, but you are not as well. Within walking of five minutes time, I had an Irish pub (good food), a Mexican place (good food), a Chinese place (good food), a real 7-11 across the street, and two supermarkets. Fifteen minutes walking, and I was at the light rail station, for any point between Gresham and Beaverton.

I would not go back there today, never mind the worsening of the politics (I lived there when the cowboy doctor governor was there the first time), but because I find that my bones LIKE days without rain, snow or ice!

i am a graphics designer (specifically a technical illustrator which is a different thought process) and i like the idea of things within walking distance. i can walk to park, library, book store, 8 restaurants, 2 food stores and 4 liquor stores and i live in the burbs. living someplace where i had to drive 30 minutes to get to the food store would cause me to have a paradigm shift in my living and thought process. not right or wrong just is. i take 2 classes and i think at least half of each class would freak if they knew i was sitting in class with a GLOCK 19 and 3 mags on me.

sorry i'm just goofing with you but i do understand your stereotype of graphic designers and it is true.

Of all the things you might want, my gov, Martin O’Malice, is not one of them.

Ever.

Nobody with half a brain should ever aspire to be “the next JFK”.

If O’Malley runs he won’t garner many votes. I think he’s working for a high-level post in a Hillary admin.

Nothing invented by man is a “human right.”

The only “human right” that exists is the ability to work and pay for it.

O'Malley is a lying piece of filth. He has raised taxes in Maryland over 80 times since he has been in office.

He is on the make for the presidency and needs to be repudiated.

The only thing in life that’s free is air. But I’m sure government’s working on that, too.
