There is a connection to the Muslim Brotherhood and the moderate rebels this Admin armed to help bring down ASSAD....and I have never agreed with bringing down Gaddaffi or Assad. I had a different take on Sadaam Hussein, and I saw that caravan leave Iraq and go into Syria via Satellite several months before we attacked Iraq.
There are witnesses who say the rebels did chemical attacks on Syrians and not Assad. Gadaffi like Assad are evil, but ISIS is the bigger threat. No more vacuums like the one left in Iraq for the ISIL to take as a Caliphate.
GW Bush warned in a speech about not keeping that residual force in Iraq in 2006 ,and said a Caliphate would take that vacuum if we did not leave a certain amount of troops there. (20,000??? I think).

I believe you are right. Now I read a book written by a woman who came here in 80s ( 2 years ago) and she worked in our government and she talked about some Female Turks in FBI or CIA, who ran things behind the scenes here in USA...that was scary stuff.
Her top secret clearance was revoked and her job terminated. It was a borrowed book but will try to find a copy for your info.
