“The practice of quarantine, as we know it, began during the 14th century in an effort to protect coastal cities from plague epidemics. Ships arriving in Venice from infected ports were required to sit at anchor for 40 days before landing. This practice, called quarantine, was derived from the Italian words quaranta giorni, which mean 40 days.”

The modern world is now moving toward a full Ebola quarantine. I personally recall flying home from Europe in the 1960s while I was in the US Army. The plane was diverted to the Azores, and while it was refueled, the military passengers (mostly US Navy submariners) were released into the Azores for a few hours of shore leave. The commanders were not aware that a virus was loose in the Azores. When we reboarded the plane and subsequently learned of the virus, we also learned that we would be diverted once we reached the US. We had to sit on a runway in Rhode Island and wait for the US health authorities to inspect the plane. They tested everyone on it and held us while they observed whether the virus had run its course.

Quarantines are a pain in the neck. They are also necessary to isolate viruses and break the chain of transmission. We see in modern countries with mature economies and functioning health systems that the use of quarantine is understood and is being implemented now in response to Ebola. The scares in Spain and Texas will ratchet up the level of quarantine. The period of 21 days will become a well-known time measurement.

Church Street Graveyard

"Church Street Graveyard was acquired by the City of Mobile in 1820, and replaced the older colonial burial ground located at the site of the present Cathedral. The earliest burials in the graveyard in fact date from 1819, while negotiations for the purchase of the site were still in progress. Many of the early burials were victims of yellow fever. "

Joe Cain (The Father Of Mardi Gras is buried here too.)

**Quarantines are a pain in the neck.**

Not as much as an Ebola epidemic on our shores.

1) Discrimination is worse than a global epidemic.
2) Being self-righteous about discrimination is more important than preventing a global epidemic.
3) The United States deserves to be subject to a third world plague because it’s just fair that it does.

0bammy and his boys are well insulated from any pandemic and the US MUST suffer along with the rest of the world. Besides, if a million cracka whiteys die, so what?

This may just be the thing that prompts the guillotines to be set up on the mall.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

I’ve been told that guillotines are “too French”.
Hangin’s more ‘merican.

We’re heading for a “big clash” here pretty soon, if the Lord doesn’t come first.

In these troubled times, when I have trouble sleeping, I go to bed and close my eyes and envision a situation where Soros, Obama and their political cronies hide themselves away in a sealed resort to escape the plague, only to find themselves re-enacting Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death. One by one, room by room, Pelosi, Reid, all of them, drop like bowling pins.

Try it! You will gently fall off to sleep with a smile on your face and awake refreshed, ready to meet the day and fight the good fight!

“The modern world is now moving toward a full Ebola quarantine”

maybe i’ve missed something but from where i’m sitting it appears nothing could be further from the truth. in fact governments are doing everything they can to discourage talk of quarantine. god forbid we disrupt the economy of the sierra leone or liberia right?
