For McConnell, it’s now or never (leadership challenge?)
thehill.com ^ | 10/8/14 | Alexander Bolton

If Republicans fall short of expectations this fall, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) could face a leadership challenge.

Republican senators say there is much riding on the Nov. 4 elections for McConnell, who is gunning to become majority leader while also attempting to defeat a well-funded Democratic opponent.

“If we don’t win the majority then all bets are off,” one GOP senator told The Hill when asked whether McConnell could face a leadership race if Republicans remained in the minority in 2015. The senator, who requested anonymity, said some members of the Senate Republican Conference would call for a re-evaluation of McConnell’s tactics, which the lawmaker described as maintaining total party unity in opposition to the Democratic agenda.

The senator acknowledged that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is difficult to work with because he has severely limited the ability of Republicans to offer amendments.

“There’s no question Harry Reid is very tough to deal with, but some of us wonder whether we should have tried to go around him to work with other Democrats,” the senator said.

Conservative critics, on the other hand, argue that McConnell has been too accommodating and has not been fierce enough in waging the battle to repeal ObamaCare or slash federal spending.

Sen. Ted Cruz, a Tea Party favorite, has been at odds with McConnell on a number of issues. The Texas Republican declined to say in an ABC News interview last month whether he would even vote for McConnell as majority leader if Republicans pick up six seats or more.

“Please..ur ability to connect the dots sucks.”

That depends. If you want us to win the senate without McConnell, I kind of see your point.

But since you seem ready to watch the US crash and burn and then apparently be rebuilt with foreign votes and martial law from an ebola outbreak, then ....

Circular argument. I’ve been thinking the same thing about you ... your ability to connect the dots sucks.

The process is called creating dots.

When there are no dots to connect to make the point, many here create them from thin air

You have equated the GOPe with government in your bible reference and with the referee here.

They are neither. They are a political party that is seeking MY vote. I’m the customer... a conservative customer. If they want my vote, then they need to earn it and deserve it. If they campaign against my interests, then all of the stretched analogies in the world will not get me to vote for them.

If you want to use an analogy though, I think a hockey one is appropriate. The GOPe took a cheap shot in Mississippi and now the TEA party is sending in the enforcer to send a message. Sometimes the message is worth the penalty.

If you want to use not winning the senate majority as an impact... then please tell me what positive thing you think will change in the next two years by us winning the senate.

Dethroning Harry Reid is about as important as the local high school prom queen. This isn’t a popularity contest, it is government. Appointments and legislation are how to keep score, not personalities. The RINOs rubber stamp appointments and are pursuing the wrong legislation. The compromises made by RINOs such as the sequester have gutted our military.

So please, tell me what is at stake other that McConnell’s crown. I want to be wrong. I want to believe the GOP wimps in the senate leadership are capable of doing something... but I don’t see it.

No one here wants to see Grimes win and no one wants to see McConnell win. Because whichever wins is a loss.

We are screwed.

Vote, we lose.

Don’t vote, we lose.

Sh*tty outcome no matter what.

The existentialist philosopher Jean Paul Sartre once asked:

“If you are neck deep in a barrel of snot and someone is getting ready to throw a pile of sh*t at your head, would you duck?”

Yep, that’s where we’re at; tagline is where we need to go.

Primary time was and will be the best time to nail an establishment near-RINO.

Why?

Do you see the Democrats giving up after the primaries?

No, they don't. They just got the courts in Colorado to let the Democrat candidate drop out of the race after the deadline and without just cause, because he was losing.

Because Democrats NEVER stop fighting for what they want.

But Republicans are supposed to say that the time to fight was the primary, the fight is over, it's time to move on...

And lose again to an opponent who never gives up.

At least now we are still [for the time being] Christian dominant.

That was true when I was younger, but I fear it is no longer. Christians can not abide murder of children or homosexuality, yet here we are.

1Sa 8:5 And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.

1Sa 8:6 But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD.

1Sa 8:7 And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them. We are in this mess because we have rejected God and demanded a king, that can take care of us.

[But I do empathize with patriotic outrage over the dirty politics by near-RINO republican leaders.]

Someone posted that not voting for McConnell allows him to hold his head high and have a clean conscience if we fail to take back the senate.

So I looked to both the history and the doctrine of the Apostle Paul who instructed soldiers to serve their [pagan Roman] commanders well. [Seemed to offend you somehow.]

The logic of referring to Paul is not merely doctrinal but also historic - Christians have had to put up with deeply warped individuals throughout history. This might confuse someone who wants to lose the Senate and teach republicans a lesson, but I think it’s safe to say that Saint Paul would not agree because Jesus Christ isn’t running in this race, and demon-rats are vulgar, anti-Christian, baby-killing creeps.

As for borders, McConnell might want to open the borders [apparently], but it’s not as vital to him as it is to the leftists. We’ve managed to persuade republicans to block a suicidal immigration policy ever since the Bush administration. Will they ignore us this time? Maybe, maybe not. But if democrats win this time around it is a certainty.

“If every soldier deserted because his officers make mistakes, we wouldn’t have an army. We don’t have a Army, Obama has an Army, we have a king.”

ROFL — yeah you got me there. [Grin.]

But seriously, these fighting forces are serving above and beyond the call of duty, especially the troops in Liberia. God bless them! If I had one son or even five sons, there is no way on earth I would support any of them joining the military under President Ebola, but if one of them did anyway, I would weep [yep — I’d cry] and pray for that young man. And I would send him support like there’s no tomorrow.

Let’s give our war heroes the most patriotic congress possible for oversight and budgeting. Let’s trust our fellow patriots to help heap coals over the heads of every RINO after the election. With victory, we have the confidence to amend the Constitution — Liberty Amendments. Term limits for congress, perhaps allowing these old farts to be ‘grandfathered’ so they themselves can support congressional [and judiciary] term limits. And on 2016, let’s kick those godless military-hating demon-rats out of the White House.

You also mentioned how our nation turned its back on God. No, the USA did NOT turn its back. The demon-rats did [booed God three times during their last convention], and then they keep tricking the “bitter-clinger” voters. As for abortion, 85% of the population is opposed to abortion on demand, but they don’t realize what zealots the demon-rats are about abortion [especially President Ebola-care].

Almost every demon-rat congress critter slithers to some church somewhere to appear Christian. Their ads and speeches rarely expose their true hearts. And voters are far from well-informed:

Yeah, Republicans [especially the pros] pretty lame campaigners [only meaning business during the primaries]. But they sometimes luck out despite their squishiness.

I’m not in agreement with your questionable theology.

Lets start with Psalm 1:

Psalm 1
1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.
4 Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6 For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

The first century Christians did not get to chose their government, but we can chose who we vote for. The letter R is not enough of a reason to pull the lever. I want to vote FOR someone, not AGAINST a worse opponent. I don’t demand 100% agreement, but McConnell’s threat to crush the tea party is not a 1% difference of opinion... it was a show stopper.

“...but McConnell’s threat to crush the tea party is not a 1% difference of opinion... it was a show stopper.”

That is hideous. It’s most definitely a reason to primary him at every opportunity, to undermine him between elections, to disfavor him AND the GOP reg. contributions, AND ....

We should tell senators [after the election] that there will be no more donations for any senator who fails to publicly criticize that ‘Tea Party Hating Creep’. [First we would need widespread support for the idea before carrying it out.] It would be easier to convince republicans to do that than to convince them to let a demon-rat win his senate seat. And who knows? Republicans sometimes even buckle to public pressure. Maybe McConnell will seek to mend fences if such a movement gets going.

But anyone opposed to partial birth abortion isn’t all bad. I bet he’s also opposed to redefining marriage, right? I bet he criticizes government waste sometimes. Bad, yes, but not a monster.

1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers...

I read something similar in the Bible. [Fuzzy memory — proverbs?] “Do not walk, stand, and sit with evil.”

It used to confuse me because there seems to be so many contradictions to that message.

Paul also said not to worship your pagan master with your eyes. That is how the scriptures are in harmony. We don’t need to worship a Ruling Class republican if we simply vote for him. [And few of my bosses were exactly ‘members of the choir’. Should I have refused to work for them?]

Abraham was friendly with the heathen self-worshiping Pharoh and even claimed that he was a brother of his wife to prevent getting beheaded. David was ‘friendly’ with the Philistines while acting as a fifth columnist in Philistine lands. Paul essentially said to get along with pagans in power. Jesus said to pay taxes to pagan Rome [he paid out of a fish’s mouth].

The history of the Bible teems with sordid compromises and worse.

“The first century Christians did not get to chose their government, but we can chose who we vote for.”

We especially get to choose during the primary. After that, the choices are down to three: one, the other, or neither.

*** To vote for neither [or protest vote] is to bury your talent.

That’s the reality. And if Abraham can be cordial with the Pharoh, a Christian can vote for the ‘lesser evil’.

“Other than we presenting our nuts for them to kick and presenting our backs for them to stab, how have we [Conservatives] used them?”

Believe you me, I get infuriated year after year with Ruling Class Republicans, ever since being a part of this forum even before there was a term, ‘Ruling Class’. Newt Gingrich nixed the Chinagate scandal, and I wrote a vanity: “Neutering Newt”.

I even got furious with Alan Keyes [beyond the point of foolishness] for dropping the ball on the strange death of Ron Brown. [Was his most agressive online supporter, but I doubt he would ever want to see me face-to-face.] Then came the ‘98 midterm. It taught some of us the importance of momentum.

We are using congress mainly as an Obama spoiler [especially regarding Borders] and oversight. Just the fact that we have the House [despite Bone-head’s lack of enthusiasm], Obama doesn’t even publicize all of the things he would like to do, nor does he even bring up a lot of things. His agenda is ‘chilled’. And, some of his judicial nominees were rejected. He can’t choose anyone he wants. [Although we want much more strident vetting.]

The pressure needed to keep Bone-head and McConnell on the straight and narrow is monumental. Ruling Class Republicans are the real jackasses, but demon-rats are rock-hard petrified manure.

Choosing not to vote in a specific race is not “Wasting your talent”. An undervote is an important way to communicate you were not willing to support any of those choices.

As far as your do it after the “next election”... This election has little at stake while the next one is a presidential election.

The best kind of pressure is the one that hits home with their top priority... Their own job. You don’t get a rino to straighten out by voting for them... That just empowers them.
