WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, today issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s decision to reject requests from five States to review state laws that prohibit same-sex marriage.
“The Supreme Court’s decision to let rulings by lower court judges stand that redefine marriage is both tragic and indefensible,” said Sen. Cruz. “By refusing to rule if the States can define marriage, the Supreme Court is abdicating its duty to uphold the Constitution. The fact that the Supreme Court Justices, without providing any explanation whatsoever, have permitted lower courts to strike down so many state marriage laws is astonishing.
“This is judicial activism at its worst. The Constitution entrusts state legislatures, elected by the People, to define marriage consistent with the values and mores of their citizens. Unelected judges should not be imposing their policy preferences to subvert the considered judgments of democratically elected legislatures.
“The Supreme Court is, de facto, applying an extremely broad interpretation to the 14th Amendment without saying a word – an action that is likely to have far-reaching consequences. Because of the Court’s decision today, 11 States will likely now be forced to legalize same-sex marriage: Virginia, Indiana, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Utah, North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia, Kansas, Colorado, and Wyoming. And this action paves the way for laws prohibiting same-sex marriage to be overturned in any state.

That is what needs to be done, we are on the same page. But that would take major cojones, go find that in a politician...
Senator Cruz and one or two others would support a Federal Marriage Amendment if Harry Reid allowed a vote on it, though - of course - he would not. Cruz is telling the truth here, but there is absolutely nothing to be done about it - or about anything else the elites in this country decide for the rest of us. That’s what the Supreme Court ruled (or failed to rule) today.
Founded on judeo Christian beliefs yes...is it any longer a devout practicing country? No I don’t believe so. When the economy is not in the toilet...when 90 million people cannot find work...when the continuous printing of currency driving the eventual collapse of our dollar sends Americans into a violent frenzy....when we can prevent the next large strike against this natiion...when we are taking care of our vets...when we stop borrowing for our great great great grandchildren to pay off our debts...when we seal our borders I’ll then exert the energy for this issue....all afore mentioned will collapse this great country long before this fringe issue
Then you would see the REAL SCOTUS. The corporate backed, screw the Constitution take no prisoners SCOTUS. They would approve government sanctions of record proportion. They would hold State officials in contempt.
That is the very short list. It would be devastating for the State.
But, like you said, it won’t happen.
Question: what would happened in RUSSIA if tomorrow the Russian Supreme Court legalized same sex marriage and the politicians did nothing. Would the average Ivan in the street just take it?
No it won’t be. Perot was a reaction to the hidden progressivism of the Bush family.
GWH Bush was elected on Reagan’s afterglow. He was defeated because of his duplicity.
Perot only carried mostly blue collar working class voters in rust belt regions who needed to protest against GWH Bush.
It was also the conclusion of the final analysis of Romney versus Obama that it was the 6 million + strong Perot voter demographic that sunk Romney.
Cruz will not be a Perot. The republican base is huge and Cruz will carry the base PLUS the Perot voters easily.
BUT there is more.
Cruz will carry 2/3’s of the Independents and thus will win the election handily.
Perot was a clown character. He was a billionaire and his command presence was grossly lacking.
Cruz on the other hand is Reaganesque and is capable as Reagan was of carrying 49 states in a landslide.
This also means recruiting candidates for federal, state, county and local offices for the new party. There needs to be a full slate, not just a presidential candidate.
We have the example of Republicans replacing Whigs as the main opposition to Democrats.
The new Republicans had the backing of ‘big media’ in Horace Greely, and had a number of already successful politicians willing to switch.
They also had the moral issue of slavery and the practical issue of opposition to crony capitalism. They also were in favor of protective tariffs.
‘Tea Party’ is a kind of state of mind. There’d have to be agreement on some basics, and politicians willing to run on the platform.
The other candidates for the new party can wait until the midterms. There will be many many republicans already in office or newly elected that will caucus with the new party and even offer to cross over.
The idea is to take over the republican party by an end run around. Because I believe that more than 70% of republicans are followers that are doing what they are instructed to do by their party leaders, they will likewise be followers in the new party or organization behind Ted Cruz. That is not a wonderful event to consider but it is a practical consideration.
There are lots of ways to find efficiencies in marketing and advertising so that the cost is not so great. And it should be done through live streaming and internet advertising to the maximum extent possible. The democrat party now has ACORN like troll groups that spread out through forums, blogs and commenting sections of online news media. That is a cost but a necessary one to counter. Case in point: Chris McDaniel supporters in Mississippi are still going strong.
Just as Orman is wreaking havoc in Kansas as an independent, Cruz can blow a hole in the process in 2016 as an independent. Cruz should align himself with the Assembly of States and let them use their state connections to get the word out and bypass the New York media monopoly. For surely Cruz will be painted as a drunk vampire with blood dripping from his fangs.
I had hoped the the GOPe would get the message this year with the nomination of Bevin, Wolf, McDaniel and so on. But the GOPe became as democrats in their tactics to preserve their incumbency. So I think that even should the republicans take control of the Senate, the GOPe will be even more emboldened to pass their water downed progressive agenda that will mix Obamacare, Homosexual Normalization, Amnesty and Common Core into the American mainstream and the cost to clean it up could be impossible to bear.
The future looks bleak.
Only a rallying around Ted Cruz and like minded leaders can lift this fog of war. It will be up to Ted Cruz to show if he is up to inspiring people to that task.
The GOP needs to completely collapse as an organization before a third party is viable. The GOP is ineffective and compromised, but the organization is nowhere near total collapse. As things stand, it would be far easier to have a conservative nominated in the Democrat primaries than it would be to create a viable third party challenge.
What is the license worth anyways? What makes it so important?
I think the average Ivan in the streets of Moscow has a whole lot more sense than the average American today.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: States need to simply ignore the federal courts, including the “supreme” court, when they issue unconstitutional rulings.
It’s hard I know.
We had talked earlier this year about a Tea Party Convention run as a live stream with Tea Party House parties watching the live stream.
The purpose was for conservatives to nominate their candidate before the GOP had their convention SO THAT IT WOULD BE KNOWN prior to the GOPe pre-ordained selection.
Importantly such an effort would gain the critical support of the majority of independents who make up one third of the electorate.
Because the republicans right now ARE NOT POPULAR. Any benefit the GOP receives is at the hands of Obama and democrat follies. The GOP stands for nothing. Voters will be ABD voters (anything but democrats).
But a Tea Party presence that pierces into the living rooms of Americans with a narrative that is direct and unaltered, will give Americans a choice other than democrats and republicans. And although the Tea Party will be an offshoot of the GOP, it will be presented as the party that can take over and get a handle on the corruption inside the GOP.
Then when-if the GOP nominates Jeb Bush or Romney or whoever, Ted Cruz can break off as an independent candidate for President.
Its time to stand up to the oligarchy. This is tyranny. If stats can not decide what criteria that will have for licensing marriages then what can they decide? The argument that denying the licensing of gay marriage is unconstitutional is based on nothing. I will never stop fighting and conservative states should just refuse to grant marriage licenses regardless of what the oligarchs say.
Arkansas said that to the federal courts about desegregation in the 1950s. (No, I am not comparing desegregation to gay marriage, I am just talking about what happens when a state defies a federal court order). President Eisenhower sent in federal troops to enforce the federal court order. Arkansas folded quickly.
Thank you, Senator Cruz. However, you appear to be the only high-profile Republican willing to take the right stand on this.
Great story. Where are the conservative “Rosa Parks” people? Ghandi stood as a figurhead for massive civil disobedience, and managed to kick the British Empire to the curb. Civil disobedience is a powerful tool, yet the right has a strong aversion to it.
Cruz seems to be the only one of our otherwise pathetic GOP leaders to talk consistently, clearly and forcefully about the kisses that the base cares about.
