If Ebola ravages this country, every single unionized federal employee, especially DHS/CDC/HHS, will spend the rest of their short lives running from those of us Ebola doesn’t kill.
It is disheartening to see how many people still throw around words like “rookie,” “inexperienced,” and “incompetent.”

My theory is that he told the Africans that he wouldn’t exclude them from the US when he met with at the WH two months ago. Of course he would not announce that to the US public because it would have created an uproar.

Yes, of course I was being sarcastic. America being a nation of immigrants is a meaningless truism. Of course we are, but so what? It assumes that all immigrants are equal, regardless of who they were (are), why or when they came here, etc. That’s why I included it as satire. But obviously everyone’s who was born here had ancestors that came from somewhere else, but again, so what?
As for your statistics, what’s your source? The best I could find was Wikipedia. While there certainly was a spike as the 19th century went on, you numbers seem low. Also the borders were so large and porous there must have been a lot of unrecorded immigration.

I don’t have a single ancestor who immigrated to the United States, and neither did anybody I grew up with, or anyone to whom I am closely related. They were all here at the Founding. They were by far and away Original Citizens. A small number were indians not taxed. But, they were all already here when this nation came into existence.
So, it’s no truism that we’re a nation of immigrants. For anyone who believes this, who do you think fought the Revolutionary War?
