Texas Narrows Ebola Focus to 10 Considered to Be at Greatest Risk

DALLAS — Health officials on Friday narrowed down to 10 the number of people considered most at risk of contracting Ebola after coming into contact with an infected Liberian man. They also moved the four people who had shared an apartment with the man from their potentially contaminated quarters, as local and federal officials tried to assure the public that the disease was contained despite initial missteps here.

The four people, a girlfriend of Thomas E. Duncan, the Liberian who is the first person in the United States to develop symptoms of Ebola, and three of her relatives had been under orders not to leave their home, and Texas officials apologized to them for not moving faster to have the apartment cleaned of potentially infectious materials.

[And what about the clean up crew who used a power washer on the road/walkway to ‘clean’ the Ebola laced vomit, without donning any protective gear?]

THE WHOLE APARTMENT COMPLEX HAS BEEN CONTAMINATED - Renters get the Ebola virus on their shoes from the contaminated sidewalk, then walk on the carpet in their building, enter their apartment and either take off their contaminated shoes or walk on their carpet.

And what about the pet dogs that love to sniff out everything that smells like excrement? THIS INEPTNESS IS TICKING ME OFF!

Or rides a subway or city bus. The possibilities for disaster are limitless.

They really are. This virus has been expanding in scope in areas in Africa where mobility is fairly limited.

Maybe we should quarantine all of Dallas.

Don't wait for Governor Perry. He'll let his folks wander all over the country.

I know it wouldn't be easy to bar people from West Africa and Texas from traveling throughout the United States, but I think we should at least discuss it.

As Ebola spreads into cities I can see doctors and dentists
all of a sudden going on extended vacations.

I pity the 1st doctor, nurse, and aide/tech who treated patient zero. Did the man TELL them he’d been around a woman dying of ebola? Or, the people and equipment that worked up his blood. The ER there is contaminated now, as is the laundry.

The game of Ebola Roulette continues...

*click* spin *click* spin *click* spin…BANG!

Eeeee-bolllll-aaaaaa ping!

Bring Out Your Dead

We’re gonna need

a bigger cart!

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

DJlaysitup:" My big concern is if the virus is actually contagious like say - 1 day - before symptoms. Just 1 day.
And what happens if the "low risk" person (who might not even be on the radar screen), works an 8 hour shift
at a fast food restaurant that day - then goes to a movie?"

An that is what the REAL CONCERN is .. that is , the unknown since this virus is spreading faster than most.
The belief that you are not at the contaigion level until you experience symptoms is based on prior Ebola contagious rates .
However, this is exceeding the spread rate of previous Ebola outbreaks; virologists expected rates of 1.5 , but the actual rate is 2.0, or about 1/3 faster than previous rates.
Therefore the disease doubles every 18-21 days, instead of every 28-30 days as previously demonstrated by its previous history.
