God Save Us from the Loud 'I'm Staying Home This Year' Conservatives

By Jim Geraghty

A few thoughts from the middle of the day . . .

God save us from self-professed "conservatives" who will announce they'll stay home on Election Day as a demonstration of their power.

Because as we all know, you become more influential in politics and government and public life by staying home and doing less.

....

Does the "I'm staying home" crowd apply this to everything in life? "I don't like the way the company is run, so I'm not going to work."

"Honey, I'm just not happy with your performance as a spouse, so I'm going to be less active in the marriage until you improve."

"Kids, I'm disappointed with your performance in school. Until you improve, I'm ignoring you."

The thing is, I wonder how often the "I'm staying home this year" crowd voted before. In fact, I wonder if they ever vote.

I don't understand the "I've never been more fearful for the future of this country, but I'm not willing to do anything about it" mentality.

Ronald Reagan is not walking through that door, folks.

You don;t think voting for liberal candidates (R) helps the left?

It definitely does.

We must get on our knees and thank God that mitt didn’t win.

Conservatism and the nation are better off with a liberal than a RINO!

Right?

And we wonder why breirtbart now has the traffic.

You can have all the principles in the world, but unless you have a numerical majority, they’ll be useless. That’s why we have good conservatives in the Senate but they have virtually no impact on our laws.

Yes, in various ways. Not like this moron puts it, but hey, if I don't like the prices or quality at Wal Mart, I stay home. I shop else where. When I don't approve of my kids' actions or performance, I take corrective action. This GOPe shill is presenting entirely straw man arguments.

Go ahead, put up Romney again, dear GOPe. I dare you.

Anyone who thinks the party can be changed from the inside is delusional. I have personally been fighting that battle for 20+ years, and I know people who have been in it far longer. Ain't gonna happen.

The sooner real Americans realize it's their patriotic duty to walk away from the GOPe, the better.

What disgusted me most about Romney was the energy he put into smearing Santorum, but when it came to Obama, he was wimpier than Bush Sr. on his wimpiest day.

Good rant - and THIS needs repeating:

The GOP had majority power in the House and Senate, and occupied the White House, 10 years ago. What did they do with all that power to move the agenda of liberty forward?

Answer: nothing.

A GOP that cannot even sell liberty, limited governments and free markets to the American people is worse than useless.

It is a party of tyranny enablers, and I will have none of it.

In the 2012 election I voted for Gary Johnson (former governor of my home state) rather than Romney (who I consider unacceptable).

GOP - Conservatives = Whigs. Conservatives aren’t your black slaves. Get over yourselves. You won’t be saved because your are the stoopid party. The GOP had all three branches from 2002-2006 and did nothing. Please stop being stoopid GOPe.

I forget. Who did President Gary Johnson put on the Supreme Court?

and if they can’t convince (which unfortunately, it seems that most of them can’t)

It's not necessarily that they can't convince, it's that they get diluted by stalking horse libertarian candidates whose sole purpose is to keep the GOPe incumbent in place.

It’s not merely the lack of Conservative candidates...it’s the fact that the GOP-e actively campaigns against Conservatives, and often prefer democrats win instead.

Just look at what they did to undermine the races for Governor, Lt Governor and Attorney General here in Virginia.

The GOPe held back support for the very conservative Republican candidates here and allowed three staunch communists, one a true carpetbagger, to win all three races.

Aye; if we limited the federal government to what it's authorized to do by the Constitution we'd have a vastly different federal government.
(In particular, there'd only be five or six federal agencies.)

I remember saying for two years before McCain announced his candidacy that if he was the nominee, I wouldn’t vote. I’ve seen enough of him over the years, and watched him backstab Repubs when they really needed him again and again, bad mouth Christians and conservatives, and I said, I won’t do it.

Then I sucked it up and voted for him. Mostly because of Palin.

I watched how Romney went AWOL all during the fights of the century during O’s early presidency, how his minions savaged Palin and attacked “tea party” conservatives endlessly, and I said I’d never vote for someone like that.

And then I did.

Blaming the rank and file Repubs for the McCain and Romney disasters takes a lot of nerve.

I have more or less withdrawn from politics. If they put up an open borders guy for president, I’m not sure what the point is in supporting the guy. If he isn’t going to uproot the last 8 years of O’s presidency root and branch, then what is the point in supporting him?

I’ve been told by Repubs that we don’t want to get rid of O’Care, “just the bad parts”...

Please, GOPe, if thats the best you can offer, get lost. Don’t bother me. You’re the problem.

What?
The topic was WHERE else one would vote than the GOP should they push an unacceptable candidate; I gave an answer.

The difference: They win because of people like you

Harry Reid thanks you for your support as Hillary is likely to do in a few years.
