God Save Us from the Loud 'I'm Staying Home This Year' Conservatives

By Jim Geraghty

A few thoughts from the middle of the day . . .

God save us from self-professed "conservatives" who will announce they'll stay home on Election Day as a demonstration of their power.

Because as we all know, you become more influential in politics and government and public life by staying home and doing less.

....

Does the "I'm staying home" crowd apply this to everything in life? "I don't like the way the company is run, so I'm not going to work."

"Honey, I'm just not happy with your performance as a spouse, so I'm going to be less active in the marriage until you improve."

"Kids, I'm disappointed with your performance in school. Until you improve, I'm ignoring you."

The thing is, I wonder how often the "I'm staying home this year" crowd voted before. In fact, I wonder if they ever vote.

I don't understand the "I've never been more fearful for the future of this country, but I'm not willing to do anything about it" mentality.

Ronald Reagan is not walking through that door, folks.

I have written before on FR that I think only a very tiny percentage of Americans have any idea of what the constitution really says and I say that not because I think I am an expert, my knowledge is minimal but what scares me is that in speaking to others I often wind up feeling that IN COMPARISON to them I AM an expert. I also believe that the overwhelming majority of Americans would be horrified if they were presented with the challenge of actually living by the true meaning of the constitution. Certainly that would mean that most of the federal government, most of the activities of state governments and much of local government would have to cease immediately.

If you want to see just how little people understand just try telling them that this country was NOT founded as a democracy and in fact section four of article four guarantees to each state a Republican Form of Government. The capital letters are in the document! Be careful though! Some may become violent if you tell them the truth. By the way have you ever watched Mark Dice’s videos on YouTube?

I’m not going to argue with the point you are trying to make about pragmatic voting, but using the same logic we can say a vote for Gary is a vote against Barack and against Mitt. You folks voting for Mitt are voting against Gary thereby enabling Barack to win and Gary to lose.

It is equally pragmatic to say the lesser of two evils is ... still evil. People could then argue that the evil of Barack is less than the evil of Mitt. If we want to fall into the trap pragmatism you are suggesting, then nothing ever changes because evil is never punished.

You market evil under the fear that there is never time to make a change because every election is life or death. We survived two Bushs, a Clinton and an Obama with cumulative damage to our country, most of which will be permanent without a radical change and rejection of elitism. The more damage that is done, the more people awaken to the elitist nightmare being foisted on us by your candidates and the Democrat candidates.

Your days are numbered. Our country will survive and we will take it back and restore it to good. It is your party that will die or fold in with the Democrats. The sooner the better.

I’ll go one step further.

I used to think these Romney and “Statist” (R) supporters were just simply that. The deceived, those who haven’t yet looked in the mirror and seen the enemy. However, it’s an impossibility (after some time spent on this site at least) to not understand the true tenets of Constitutionalism and Conservatism. With that said, they are the instruments of the consulting class. Those who are the smiths and keymasters shackling the legs of Republicans to the Bull Moose, Rockefeller wing, Crawford ranch, and etc.

Ask them to sell a “Statist” without contrasting him/her with a candidate of the opposition (?). They cannot. They speak about common sense without ever reading “Common Sense”

And, I’ve noticed many of them leave a calling card. After much handwringing about lesser of evil and rose tinting wolves in sheep clothing...they quantify for an escape below radar by stating “BTW I support Ted Cruz” , which is a direct contradiction to what they just espoused.

I know much of what I’m going to post has probably already been posted a thousand x’s a thousand times...

But how is it that conservatives expect to gain, no, RE-gain ground lost due to the complicity of the GOP and their willingness to “compromise” with the RATs?

Things haven’t gotten better, I believe we have a normalcy bias. When the GOP floats a trial balloon about amnesty we are supposed to consider their backing off as a “win”? Really?

Why in the hell are they even doing it in the first place? Because they’re liberals, that’s why...they’re complicit and trying to use tactics similar to the RATs “war on women” idiocy as a means to awaken the base and secure more money.

What was once supposed to be expected behavior for the GOP, has now become their “fall back” position when they float some idiotic and liberal proposition and get yelled at to get back in line...

In the current state of affairs in this country, the GOP should be hardline obstructionists to 0bama and the rest of those pieces of debris called demoncRATS, instead, they’re bedfellows at best, co-conspirators at worst...I lean towards the latter...

Idiocy.

I agree it is a tremendous problem but not hopeless. I may be wrong, but it seems that conservatives are becoming more vocal and resistant to the shrill and phony liberal outrage. We need fewer shrinking violets and people willing to take heat for what they say.

Example: Rush Limbaugh calls Sandra Fluke as slut and he gets the heat from politicians who paraded the slut in front of Congress. They defile the dignity of congress but Limbaugh is considered outrageous. I’m only sorry he backed down but he should have gotten a flood of support. All this crap about “civility” is just another gag to prevent evil from being called evil.

Think about it. Rush is condemned for calling a slut a slut, but someone who advocates killing babies, well, they’re just fine, and good, and compassionate to women, and ... just plain evil but they get a pass.

I think we can awaken people to the brilliance and benefits of our constitution, but not without virtue and a firm reliance on Providence.

So, Gary got a vote that might otherwise have gone to not-Barry. Whoop-de-do!

So, what are you so upset about? Your 'electable' candidates are right out there waiting for your money. You can either try to earn our votes to help or you can just go sweep on to glorious victory. Right?

Here's a hint: insults gain you zero votes.

McCain we agree about - he’s proven to be an idiot. Romney looked to be a decent man but with some wrong policies for sure. I feel either would have been better for USA than an illegal alien islamoNazi follower of Marx and Alinsky Hell-bent on destroying America, Christians, and Jews. McCain a close call, admittedly.

they don’t care that the SURVIVAL of the USA hangs in the balance

Oh but we do care, which is why we have been quietly preparing for this eventuality. Food, water, TP, ammo...it will all be necessary soon enough, in order to restore the Republic. It is those that continue to vote for RINO's, in the hopes that it will somehow stave off the destruction of the Republic, who don't care about it. That is the PRECISE reason the Country is in the shape it's in now.

No, no more RINO's. If that means the left gets elected, sobeit. I would rather have the enemy out front, where I can see them, than to have a "friend" on the same "team" stabbing me in the back. You may enjoy that, but I'm not that stupid.

The toilet bowl is swirling to its inevitable end. Do you vote for the “R” and slow down the swirl rate a bit or do you vote your conscience and complete the flush?

Stock up now, vote your conscience and complete the flush, lock n load and hang on for the ride!

In the 2012 election I voted for Gary Johnson (former governor of my home state) rather than Romney (who I consider unacceptable).

I'm hoping we get that chance again in 2016!

the crybaby conservatives are just low tactical voters. They have no concept of winning wars. The background numbers in polling show democrats are lockstep after primaries. They may be dumb as doornails but they understand tactical battle victories.

If history has taught us anything, it is surrendering in all battles because you don’t have the army you really want is a guarantee to enslavement.

When Reagan lost in 76, he viewed it as laying the groundwork for 1980. We already are starting in that direction with primaries. Just look how desperate thad Cochran had to maneuver to weasel a win. How about the majority leader in the house.

Second Amendment civil rights is now so off limits we have only heard any attacks from two non election democrats in CT. We have pulled the Republicans and even democrats to the right/constitution/away from the left.

Staying home is just illogical useful idiot talk.

"Woe to those that call good, evil; and to those who call evil; good."

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV)

I'd call that a 4 point plan for reclaiming America, right there. I don't think it'll ultimately matter who votes for whom, or who stays home. That's my final answer.

Spoilers attract mockery.

Same excuse liberal Leftists use to justify similar tripe spewed.

I find that Status Quo Statists attract lackeys and stooges that ridicule those who will not think and do as they are told.

Your mockery and condescension of Constitutionalists and Libertarians who will not violate principles and vote for the Ruling Class GOP liberal is duly noted.

I don’t think that is a fully accurate picture.

We do face an existential threat in America, and for all their hideous warts and hunchbacks, the Republican party isn’t it. The statist ideology represented by B. Hussein Obama and his cabal are the threat.

Wait, what?
No, seriously, what?

The Republican party is all for that statist ideology you mention.
As was pointed out in Post 25 and 67:

The GOP had majority power in the House and Senate, and occupied the White House, 10 years ago. What did they do with all that power to move the agenda of liberty forward?
Answer: nothing.

A GOP that cannot even sell liberty, limited governments and free markets to the American people is worse than useless.
It is a party of tyranny enablers, and I will have none of it.

What about things they could have stood against?
  1. Amnesty (instead of their “path to citizenship”/“comprehensive immigration reform” BS)
  2. Bailouts (instead of “I had to abandon free market principles in order to save the free market system.”)
  3. ObamaCare itself (instead of their “fix the bad parts and keep the good parts” BS)
  4. the NDAA (especially its indefinite detainment)
  5. the NSA's domestic espionage (seriously, with as unpopular as this is the only explanation of why they didn't go full-bore against it is that they approve of it!)
  6. the IRS's political targeting (like the above; most Americans [even those with a somewhat liberal bent] find the political targeting reprehensible.)
  7. aiding terrorists (instead of Fast & Furious, arming Syria, etc)
  8. irresponsible financial practices (they perpetually spending more than they take, raise the debt-ceiling, and sell the people, their children, and their children's children into slavery; after all, the national debt is money secured against future income [taxes], the taxes imposed on the earnings of the country's residents.)
(Thanks to BigSkyFreeper for mentioning many items on that list.)
If the Republican party cannot, or will not, address any of these issues why should I, or anyone, vote for their candidates?

The Republican party is like the NRA: perpetually screaming "they're going to take your guns" but then not pushing back against the underlying mechanisms that would allow confiscation (or infringement in general): when was the last time you saw the NRA really push for repeal of the GCA or NFA? — No, that would eliminate the urgency of their cries, it would also make them have to spend money on some other advertising scheme. — Exactly like the Republicans and their constant the other guy's worse! schtick.

Likewise, when was the last time you saw the Republican party push back against voter fraud?
How about cutting off the IRS's power with a universal flat-rate income tax, no exemptions, no write-offs, no credits, no exceptions?
How about destroying agencies whose whole SOP revolves around shitting on the Constitution? (e.g. the NSA, the TSA, the EPA, the DEA, etc.)
Apparently they can't be bothered to do that. What good are they?

Apparently, they are the lesser of two evils, and we owe them our vote regardless of their history or actual intent — apparently we owe them our undying allegiance, our religious fervor, and yes, even our very souls!

Join us reading the Psalms, chapter 23 (HERS):
1 The Party is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 They maketh me to lie down in green cards: and leadeth me beside the turbulent waters.
3 They restoreth my soul: they leadeth me in the paths of The Party for their pride's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of statism, I will fear no evil: for they art with me; their lesser of two evils, they comfort me.
5 They preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies, terrorists & invaders: they anointest my head with urine; my poisoned cup surely runneth over.
6 Surely humiliation and spite shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Republican Party for ever.
Now, join us in our irrational oblational devotional:
Master Republican guide us. Master Republican teach us. Master Republican protect us. In your light we thrive. In your mercy we are sheltered. In your wisdom we are humbled. We live only to serve. Our lives are yours.
