God Save Us from the Loud 'I'm Staying Home This Year' Conservatives

By Jim Geraghty

A few thoughts from the middle of the day . . .

God save us from self-professed "conservatives" who will announce they'll stay home on Election Day as a demonstration of their power.

Because as we all know, you become more influential in politics and government and public life by staying home and doing less.

....

Does the "I'm staying home" crowd apply this to everything in life? "I don't like the way the company is run, so I'm not going to work."

"Honey, I'm just not happy with your performance as a spouse, so I'm going to be less active in the marriage until you improve."

"Kids, I'm disappointed with your performance in school. Until you improve, I'm ignoring you."

The thing is, I wonder how often the "I'm staying home this year" crowd voted before. In fact, I wonder if they ever vote.

I don't understand the "I've never been more fearful for the future of this country, but I'm not willing to do anything about it" mentality.

Ronald Reagan is not walking through that door, folks.

I recall when Bush was running the second time, right here on this site I was told not to bring up the country killing issues of open borders and reckless never ending immigration....I was told to save all that until AFTER Bush was elected...

No, I didn’t fall for that cockn’bull party bull s**t.

It is admonishment...

It's nothing of the sort. It seems you're leading the charge in demonizing fellow conservatives because they choose to cast their vote for a more worthwhile candidate. You can continue to vote for the anointed establishment Republican until Kingdom come and nothing will change. Have you not been paying attention to what the GOPe is saying about folks like you and me over the past year? Aren't you paying attention to the shift leftward in their rhetoric? We are lurching headlong into the destruction of this great Republic and the Republican establishment is complicit.

The elitist, moderate/liberal wing of the GOP is running the party and you're playing into their hands. I voted for the Romney/Ryan ticket in 2012 despite my misgivings concerning both gentlemen. I will not go this course again.

Not a republican. Not here.If you stay at home, then enjoy the commies you helped elect.
I’ve never heard a stay at home and don’t vote guy ever tell me how staying at home helps. Only thing I ever hear is how they won’t give their consent, like that makes them better than me. And then the garbage about how I’m a sheep.
So FRiend how will you make life better by staying home? Or is it only snark?

Ah, there's a little side-channel communication going on: on the thread it's been asserted multiple times that voting third-party is the same as staying at home is the same as *gasp!* voting for the other guy!

There's also a fair number saying that they cannot vote for another Romney and would vote third party instead; all of this taken together (esp. considering the article, which blames the voters instead of acknowledging that Romney alienated a lot of people) is what lead me to post that [rather creepy] bit/oath from the Sword of Truth books. I find it accurately describes how the Republican-party wishes to be thought of, being that they are statists.

My suspicion is the bull is a paid party hack and antagonist and if not paid, just a demagogue for the GOP party apparatus.

Basically operates the same way Union Thugs do on forum threads to keep their plebes in line with the leadership.

Intimidation.

He calls it ‘admonishment’.

It’s just simple bullying - and I don’t tolerate a bully, nor do I get intimidated.

He acts just like those he supposedly opposes. Ought to tell you much about the spirit that motivates him. Especially when he says anyone who seeks perfection is an enemy of the good.

He and his fellows have a group that conducts a regular 2 min hate in which infidels to the cause are targeted for mockery, threads are disrupted and the word of moderation and compromise are the new gospel.

On any given day there are several of the same people repeating the same 30 YO crap that led directly to our situation. Their actions in promoting moderation are zero different than the dems corraling the blacks/mexicans ect and threatening their gibsmedat bennies with removal. It’s just here, they question our patriotism, threaten ‘the dem is worse!’ even when they are mirror images and call us Obama supporters rather than Uncle Toms.

Whatever he really is it isn’t attracting voters to his cause. So I suppose we should be thanking him for rallying people to ‘ours’.

Distasteful sure. But he seems really good at it ;)

me, Mitt? Would I let some jackass keep me home? Like the girly-priests, etc. who cannot fill out a ballot.

Barely a person in the Diocese votes regularly ... no primaries, etc. Not regular voters:

And this year they didn’t stop from the prior cycle. They just kept the GOP/Lesser Evil no matter what’ nonsense going so people couldn’t ‘slip’ and have thoughts like ‘This is idiocy!”

Nope, just 24/7 full-on propaganda straight from the DNC.

They want DNC approved Repubs and use DNC arguments and talking points. What they really are isn’t conservative. All one has to do is look how Tralfaz upthread there refused to show what should be dog simple for anyone with the truth. Show Mitt’s conservative actions in office.

Nothing

Because there are none. In all these years we ask that and in all these years not one answer. Just avoidance all the time.

So what are they? The problem. The enemy. The thing we are against. And they are here, with names/handles and post histories filled with liberal actions/posts/comments for anyone to read. And it is past time they had it shoved down their liberal throats in public.

Voting Third Party for actual conservatives is a bit different from boycotting the election altogether. Someone can vote for Joe Markley or Len Suzio for CT State Senate or Greenberg for Congress without voting for a McCain or Romney or Dole or Bush the Elder or Feckless Ford or the Trickster for POTUS.

If what matters is that you just want to put up wins for the GOP, cross-endorse Blumenthal and Murphy and Hines and Courtney and DeLauro and Larson. Two years ago Connecticut GOP could have cross-endorsed Esty. If issues do not matter, Jerry Labriola, Jr. can prove it by cross-endorsing the leftists. How about cross-endorsing Governor Malloy whose parents were so poor that they could not afford to spell Daniel correctly?

This year's BIG question is whether Dannell will lose Connecticut or Quinnocchio will lose Illinois by a bigger % margin? The loss of either or both would cause a marked improvement in the collective IQ of the nation's governors. Malloy and Quinn cannot even spell IQ. The fact is that most Americans are not expecting a job or a contract to flow from an election result. Most of us, including you, DO have principles and policies that we care about and we expect our candidates to behave accordingly. The differences lie in how much we demand of those candidates and officeholders.

I take it that those New England churches are holding strong on the social issues and are dissatisfied with New England politicians? How can one have civil discourse with pro-aborts?

I know less about Connecticut this time than usually I do. Any bright spots?

God bless!

True.

If those conservatives are who moved from Blue states to Texas, then they still won't matter because Texas is red, whether by 1 vote or 1 million votes.

here is a guy who grew up under communism ... running vs. a lefty. A long-shot, no shot ... but as long as he is out there trying I’ll avoid joining the DEMS on going negative against the GOP and put my energy into winners like Lumaj.

Folks, why do we tolerate this horseshit on FR? Is there any wonder that we keep ending up with Romney when this is what represents the thinking of the far right?

You're about 5 months more than me in time here so you'll likely understand what I'm fixing to say.

In 1999 this was a different forum. It was definitely Conservative and Conservatives from all parties were in here. Most were Constitutional Conservatives or Conservative Libertarians. In 2000 an abrupt change happened. Some tried to make it a GOP forum and support Bush or else you could leave rules. It cost us many good posters and researchers. We tried to say Hey slow down and analyze and scrutinize the candidates. As the year went on the demands increased for Bush or else leave policy. Bush in 2000 came out with some bad ideas and people didn't want to hear it. When 9/11 happened it went nuclear. The theme became you're with us or the terrorist. Laws, Programs, and Agencies were created that would had prompted outrage and demands for impeachment if a DEM had done it. Still they didn't want to hear it.

2004 election the same thing and we saw some horrible leadership such as Part D Frist few now remember who helped crack the doors open for the mess we see today. Posters were accepting abuses from the GOP they would not have remained silent on from the DEMs.

For six years we watched, we hoped, we waited for the change and restoration of government that never came. By 2008 many were catching on. Nothing weakens our nation more than not having two true opposing parties and I don't mean the DEM/GOP of today. I mean true opposition with congressmen and senators taking a stand for right and sticking to it.

In 1981 despite a weak economy I had hope and felt our nation was in secure hands for two reasons. The nation was changing back toward a standard of morality and it was a genuine bipartisan as far as party goes grassroots group. Paul Weyrich most Conservatives remember, Jerry Falwell a DEM preacher most remember, Howard Phillips founder of The Conservative Caucus, The Taxpayer Party, and finally the Constitution Party no one remembers yet these men changed minds and helped Reagan into the White House. Reagan chose wise advisers including James Dobson who GW Bush snubbed on his way to a meting with Log Cabin Republicans. Dobson wasn't being obnoxious. The Bush family values are Liberal.

People yell about Obama's friendliness with Islam and rightfully so. Yet they gave W a pass on the religion that hijacked four airliners and took thousands to their death in an attack on U.S. soil unseen since WW2. The real outrage came when he called Islam the religion of Peace. I can not see Reagan ever saying such.

No one wants to look back to 1988 and remember this nation as she stood before the world and how quick anarchy began following the next administration. 1988 people believed wrongfully so they were electing a continuation of thee Reagan doctrines. By the first few months of Poppy's term it was obvious a huge change was happening. The 2002 election was not winnable for Poppy because Poppy was trying to be Bill Clinton's platform. If he had stuck to what was working and what the majority of Americans had voted for three times previous he would have been a two termer. GOP-E then started the it's Perot's fault. That began the GOP-E policy of blame it on anyone but refuse to change platform.

2000 should have been a GOP landslide. When Bush openly ran as Gore Lite he nearly lost. Clinton/Gore corruption was why he won in a squeaker.

I'm off from what I was trying to say LOL.

Conservatism is needed in America and it needs to be on all issues not just ones that appease K Street lobbyist and Wall St wanting corrupt policies. Reagan stated Trade policy best. "Trade Partners not Trade Patsies."

A lot of damage has been done by both parties. To say others is denial and hypocritical. FR as a forum needs to return to and solidify it's roots as a Conservative, GOD, Family, Guns. Guts forum and stand against any who compromise this. This forum held feet to the fire. Obviously some in DC in the GOP hierarchy fear it returning to that strong a forum once again.

A persons vote for a Conservative on all issues should not be ridiculed especially when the choices are just barely right of the Democratic Party Platform. Read the FR Mission statement Freepers.

Free Republic is the premier online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America. And we always have fun doing it. Hoo-yah!

cva66snipe didn't write that statement the forum founder and owner did. That was Free Republic when I started Lurking in 1998 lead here by my cousin "fictitious" whom was basically a Lurker with maybe two post. Before that I watched and called into a TV network Paul Weyrich ran called America's Voice. You could talk to congressmen, senators, Weyrich, Alan Keyes, and many more live and ask questions. That was in 1995. That was where I learned of Howard Phillips a well. Weyrich had lots of respect for him and his fight for the Conservative cause.

Our nation is being disassembled by corrupt mad men of all parties. It's time to stop being lead sheep and once again FREEP. A persons vote is their right that was bought by Patriot Blood. It is a persons say in the state of government. It's time we stopped treating it as anything less.

I hope the 2014 election cycle doesn't follow the same course in here it has in previous years. The enemy is The Liberals operating inside the parties. /rant

Other than a one-time winner in 1990, Pauline Kezer, the last time the GOP won the CT Sec of State more that a single time was from 1951-59. And we wonder why chicanery like the 2010 CT Governor’s race was able to occur with perpetual Democrat control.
