NATIONAL REVIEW

God save us from self-professed "conservatives" who will announce they'll stay home on Election Day as a demonstration of their power.
Because as we all know, you become more influential in politics and government and public life by staying home and doing less.
....
Does the "I'm staying home" crowd apply this to everything in life? "I don't like the way the company is run, so I'm not going to work."
"Honey, I'm just not happy with your performance as a spouse, so I'm going to be less active in the marriage until you improve."
"Kids, I'm disappointed with your performance in school. Until you improve, I'm ignoring you."
The thing is, I wonder how often the "I'm staying home this year" crowd voted before. In fact, I wonder if they ever vote.
I don't understand the "I've never been more fearful for the future of this country, but I'm not willing to do anything about it" mentality.
Ronald Reagan is not walking through that door, folks.

Yup.
That about sums up the article and some of the comments on this thread.
I bet “GOP-E” occurs 70 times in the comments so far. Not reading them.
“purity test” “the perfect is the enemy of the good”
And all the other hackneyed expressions used by the fainthearted to rationalize truckling to Republicrats, and to justify compromise, selling short and settling for less than the best.
All these Chinese philosophers! “Better a diamond with a flaw than a pebble without.” Confucius
OK.
(Apologies in advance to Sam Adams, paraphrased)
“From the day on which an accommodation takes place between the establishment GOP and conservatives, on any other terms than as independent, I shall date the ruin of this country.
A politic minister will study to lull us into security by granting us the full extent of our petitions. The warm sunshine of influence would melt down the virtue which the violence of the storm rendered more firm and unyielding.
In a state of tranquility, wealth, and luxury, our descendants would forget the arts of war and the noble activity and zeal which made their ancestors invincible. Every art of corruption would be employed to loosen the bond of union which renders our resistance formidable.
When the spirit of liberty, which now animates our hearts and gives success to our arms, is extinct, our numbers will accelerate our ruin and render us easier victims to tyranny.
Ye abandoned minions of an infatuated ministry, if peradventure any should yet remain among us, remember that countless patriots are numbered among the dead.
Contemplate your countrymen, and then say, What should be the reward of such sacrifices?
Bid us and our posterity bow the knee, supplicate the friendship, and plow, and sow, and reap, to glut the avarice of the men who have let loose on us the dogs of war to riot in our blood and hunt us from the face of the earth?
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom—go from us in peace.
We ask not your counsels or arms.
Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you.
May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!”
Pull up your big girl pants. Not you GeronL.
All of you weak-kneed moderates
Jim, those folks don’t like or trust the GOP professional class and think it’s more about protecting its own interests than theirs. Fairly or not, that’s what they think. And truth be told, it’s not entirely unfair. Working those problems instead of telling the messengers they’re stupid and sore losers would be a really good idea for you guys.
That really is what this is all about. The GOPe is signalling its intention of fielding an open-borders guy. They want us to shut up about it, but please turn out on election day.
There are a lot of Freepers that need to read this and think seriously about it.
Ok I thought seriously about it but I will not vote for Jeb, Mitt, Runt, or any other GOPe or Libertarian spoiler you can think up.
I think they went further than that and said "WE WILL KILL THOSE CONSERVATIVE PESTS TRYING RUIN OUR GOOD THING HERE."
The GOPe is the 3P party: power, plunder and perks. Conservatives threaten all of those which is why we are more feared and hated than the Democrats. If the GOPe loses to the Democrats, they know the 3Ps will still be there and they just may have to wait another election cycle. If conservatives got into government, they would reduce the 3Ps and that would piss off GOPes and Democrats alike.
Yes indeed.
At least he's consistent...he's done the same thing to Scouters who are quitting the BSA for their pro-HOMO movement and sliding over to a faith based program.
The purity test is coming from the RINO’s... see McConnell using his rank and office to attack Senate Conservatives Fund and TEA party candidates.
If not us, Who?
If not now, When?
Bump!
Just because more Senators might have an (R) by their name does not mean the Progressives are not still in charge.
Oh I plan to.
I'm writing in a Conservative instead of filling in a box for McConnell.
He obviously does not comprehend the biblical admonition that a little leavening leavens the ENTIRE LUMP.
Insanity is sometimes defined by doing the same thing again and again and expecting a different result.
The GOP has hollowed itself out by for too long relying on ‘Vote for us, we are not Democrats’. That dog will no longer hunt.
I am placing my energies into the Libertarian party because they honestly believe in smaller government.
Progress in the social arena is a moral issue and not well suited to government decrees. There you have to win by persuasion, not by force of government.
Paraphrasing a sorely missed former president, “I did not leave the GOP, the GOP left me”.
The GOP has betrayed the people as an alternative to the communist/democrat/socialist party.
Their lack of vision is only matchd by their lack of balls.
STFU Jim.
I look at voting as a privilege for which others have fought and died.
I vote every election, albeit holding my nose sometimes.
Electing RINOs just begets more RINOs.
