Prepare for the return of the confirmation fight.
If Republicans capture the Senate majority in November, their sway over prominent judgeships and Cabinet vacancies potentially including a new attorney general will become one of the GOPs primary leverage points against President Barack Obama.
But first the GOP must decide whether to adopt Senate Democrats bellicose tactic to allow approval of most executive branch nominees by a simple majority vote. The rules change to the filibuster was implemented by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), but it could now come back to bite him...

So to sum up: they want to make sure that only the Democrats were able to stack the judiciary by using the "Nuclear Option."
Why, again, do we need the Senate?
At some point, we must face the facts: What we used to perceive as incompetence, is, in fact, collusion.
I was convinced we’d see Dingy Harry scramble to reinstate the filibuster rules in a lame duck session after the November election.
Sad to see, the GOP-e is ready to do the dirty work for him.
GOPe, Democrat, what’s the difference again?
The cowardly GOPe Senate leadership needs to reinstate the 60 vote requirement as long as Obama is in office and then revert back to 50 votes once we have a Republican (hopefully conservative) president. Tit for tat when playing with the ‘RATS is OK with me.
But the cowardly GOPe would never do this.
Not one dime’s worth of difference. GOP = Give O’Shiite Power.
OK, calm down. 1) Whenever Politico reports on Republicans, they are playing Psy-ops. 2) The nuclear-option still hurts the party out of the WHITE HOUSE. Restoring the filibuster will prevent Murkowski and Collins from aligning with the Democrats to push the nominees through.
[ Confirmation Battles Are Back (Senate GOP-E already planning to reinstate filibuster rules) ]
All Squawk and NO Walk....
They will do no such damned thing, we KNOW how squishy they are...
So what you are saying is that for Obama’s last two years, with RINOs like McCain, Snow and Graham in a closely-GOP controlled Senate, you want the threshold for putting Obama’s nominees on the bench to be 50 votes and not 60?
Is that really what you’re saying? Whose side are you on, again?
More proof that you can’t fix stupid. The ‘RATS have to be overjoyed about this.
Better question is why do we have direct election of Senators instead of repealing the 17th Amendment.
” At some point, we must face the facts: What we used to perceive as incompetence, is, in fact, collusion. “
NAILED IT! The Republican GOP-E Party is nothing more than a wing of the Establishment “Uni-Party”
You have the Establishment “Uni-Party” made up of the Whole Democrat Party and the RINO Wing of the GOP....
Reinstate it such that you have to be on the floor talking all the time. ALL Mr Smith goes to Washington. No potty breaks. Make Harry Reid wear a diaper
The very best thing that could happen is that conservatives would refuse to vote for McConnell. His loss would scare the excrement out of GOPe senators and no one would ever brag about “crushing the TEA Party” in a primary again. Sweetheart deals with the Democrats would be toxic in the next round of primaries.
We are depending on you KY conservatives to right this ship.
The Republicans will not get the chance to reinstate the filibuster rule.
If the Republicans take control of the Senate, harry reid will change the rules back the way they were while he is still in control if the Senate .
Restoring the filibuster is actually a good thing. If Republicans do take control of the Senate, they will control the calendar, but not by a big majority. Remember there are squishy lib/moderates like Goober Graham and Susan Collins and Juan McLame, who will happily cross the divide to confirm democrat nominees. Restoring a filibuster will allow a small minority of conservative Republicans to muck up the destructive force of the obama agenda.
Anyone who sees them self as a Constitutionalist republican (with a small R) should be in favor of changing the filibuster rule it back. The more that we rely on 50% +1 to govern, the more we move toward a populist Democracy and away from a Constitutional Republic.
