On the day Attorney General Eric Holder announced his resignation, President Barack Obama enacted an executive action on Thursday to allow certain DREAMers to serve in the military and be put on an expedited path to citizenship.
Obama vowed to hold off on broad executive amnesty that would also potentially grant temporary work permits to millions of illegal immigrants until after the midterm elections to help Senate Democrats retain the Senate. According to the Military Times, this executive action will expand MAVNI (Military Accessions in the National Interest) "to target foreign nationals with high-demand skills, mostly rare foreign language expertise, or specialized health care training."
The program, which admits foreigners with specialized medical or language skills, will now be "open to immigrants without a proper visa if they came to the U.S. with their parents before age 16" and have been approved for Obama's 2012 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
The MAVNI program "is capped at 1,500 recruits per year," and Obama's executive action "may be the first phase of a broader government-wide effort to ease pressure on immigrants and create new paths to citizenship," according to the Times, because "after entering military service, foreigners are eligible for expedited U.S. citizenship." The Times noted that "since 2001, more than 92,000 foreign-born service members have become citizens while serving in uniform."(continued)

A ‘foreign legion’, as the other lesser nations have, is built of conscripts, convicts, and others who feel that ‘the soldier of fortune’, or more bluntly, mercenaries, was their ticket to a better life.
When the publication, “Soldier of Fortune” came onto the scene, one of the first covers shown was one of Nelson Mandela’s troops, with his head blown open.
At that time, I was considering leaving the country, and joining the Rhodesian Security Force. One thing stopped me. We had laws in place, at that time, that any American enjoining a mercenary outfit to engage in combat in a foreign land, was punishable by a full-blown prison sentence of not less than 20 years. Oh well.
That was more than 25 years ago.

I’m currently in the military. I’m split on this. If these people are willing to learn our language and assimilate to our system, I am for it to an extent. If these people are willing to put their lives on the line to become a US citizen, it’s a lot more than the vast majority of current US citizens are willing to do...

I’m not even split on it. These guys grew up here (at least from late adolescence), learned the language and culture in the process (in most cases) and, as you say, seem to be willing to put their lives on the line for the country.

I have NOT heard such, but what I HAVE heard is a lot of bellowing from the destructive politicians, eager to supplant native-born americans, that hate those politicians’ guts, with a servant class, that would be beholden to those same politicians.
Robert A. Heinlein, a deaad white guy, but prolific writer, DID advocate that ‘doing time in the military’ would EARN a person’s citizenship, should they survive, and the right to vote, which he did NOT believe should just be something legislated.
Obama and his thugs WANT things to go wrong. This isn’t a mistake, it’s a plan.
Remember a few months back when they were cutting (purging) 30,000 soldiers from the ranks? Now they’re going to give the jobs to illegals?
Iran had a problem a few years back - seems their local police were having problems beating up student protesters - so they brought in ‘enforcers’ from other Muslim countries. There’s the connection...
