Some are calling it the latte salute.
When President Obama stepped off Marine One at the Wall Street landing zone in New York City, en route the United Nations, he saluted two Marines at the bottom of the stairs as he held a coffee cup in the same hand.

DIdn’t Reagan always shake their hand or say hello?
True. That picture will go viral all over the military net.
Reagan loved our military (after all, he served ((unlike or present CIC)) and went out of his way to honor them.
He personally made sure that would be the case when he sealed his entire life by executive order.
It's literally incredible that Congress has not seen fit to make sure that no future presidential candidate of any party can ever repeat that arrogant smarmy in your face disdain for the American citizens.
I don't remember ever, as a citizen, voting on joining the African delusional corrupt tribal "Idi Amin" or "Emperor Bokassa" culture.
It is not just a salute it is the thinking behind it or the lack there of. The man has no class.
I checked out the string of comments on ABCNews posting of the same video. It is astonishing that they are trying to defend this obvious sign of disrespect and discourtesy.
I have to be honest and was at first appalled. However, thinking about the Marines and everyone else who serves the executive walking down the steps, we all know he is muck. They know he is muck. So why expect anything else? Grit your teeth and carry on.
Marines, you know you are worth more, so much more, than the executive walking down the steps.
I posted one other time today that we need a holiday to celebrate active duty military. They deserve it. They need it. They are being dishonored by this administration and they need to know that we the people support them and recognize their sacrifice.
If I cut him any more slack, he would probably be in Liberia.
Her legs are misshapen and bowed...looks like it may not be her. Also, the shoes are too demure for her. If she could, she’d wear her trademark sandals and cutoffs. She’s a POS too.
President Disdain understands all too well what he's doing.
The dictator doesn't care what the peasants think.
Never could stand his “swagger.” It’s not befitting to a POTUS.
My goodness it seems like we’ve been saying “two more years” for forever:(
2. The one finger salute.
I can't wait to see Obama come down those helicopter steps and give those Marines the OLD ITALIAN SALUTE and THE ONE FINGER SALUTE.
Won't that be something to call home about?
******
You know what is a sick thought: Sad to say, but I believe that if Obama could run for a third term, he would probably win again. Sad. Sad. Sad.
He didn’t mean to dis the corpse men...

Found this earlier today about saluting protocol. Reagan started this, and had asked one of his top military guys if it was okay as a civilian president to salute those in military. The response was something like “Heck, your Commander in Chief - you can salute whoever you want to!”
The link covers some of the possible problems. Such as carrying something. If possible, you are to hold the object in your left hand and salute with your right. If your right arm can’t salute (injury), a left-handed salute is okay.
If both arms are full, a nod and a “hello” is okay. Rules vary between the military branches as well.
Interesting read at the link. Talks a lot about the custom of giving a silver dollar to the first person to salute you after becoming an officer!
He doesn’t even stride, like a man. He bends his legs like a woman. I’m not kidding!
It’s certainly not befitting someone of his abilities and accomplishments, or shall we say, lack of .....
