5 years is the minimum period between referendums.
I hate it when someone says that some political unit would be the "13th largest" or "27th largest" country if independent - without defining what they mean by "large."
In the case at hand, I suspect that he means "largest economy," not "largest population."
With regards to population, I believe that Texas would be about 45th or 46th (similar to Ghana or Nepal).
With regards to geographical extent, I believe that it would be about 39th or 40th (similiar in geographical extent to Sambia or Burma).

It’s only a referendum vote. Regardless of the voting results, Scotland will still be in the UK.
Think of it like if the US had a referendum on the 2014 ballot to remove Obama and his administration. The majority vote of “YES” wouldn’t change anything until he’s gone in 2017.

Every source I have heard said the opposite of what you are saying. My understanding is all they have to do is vote yes next week.

In fact, if there is a yes vote for Scottish independence it is being projected that the value of the British pound will fall substantially and we could see a “negative shock” in British financial markets…

If Texas leaves, then I would not be surprised to see other states in the Midwest and South to follow and reform under some sort of new union.
I think the Feds may have miscalculated by leaving the borders wide open. After all how can we be sovereign without borders?
My alternative is to solidify the border and then purge the blue states of the Northeast. All north and east of New York and possibly including Maryland and New Jersey will be purged. That is , those states will be kicked out of America. They are not American now.
They can establish their own nation of Neoeuropa that mimics the Europeans they so desperately try to copy.
