TRENTON, N.J. -- The pretrial intervention program offered to Ray Rice in the assault case involving his wife was granted in less than 1 percent of all domestic violence assault cases from 2010-13 that were resolved, according to New Jersey Judiciary data obtained Friday by "Outside the Lines."
Rice and his then-fiancee, Janay Palmer, were arrested on Feb. 15 and charged with simple assault after an incident at an Atlantic City casino. Janay's charges were later dropped, but on March 27, an Atlantic City grand jury increased Rice's assault charge to aggravated assault-bodily injury in the third degree causing bodily harm and one count of simple assault. If convicted of the felony, Rice faced a penalty of three to five years in prison.
Rice's defense attorney, Michael J. Diamondstein of Philadelphia, applied for and was granted pre-trial intervention for Rice, a remedy that allows defendants to avoid conviction if they complete a court-ordered set of requirements. According to New Jersey's pre-trial intervention website, PTI is used in criminal cases that don't involve "violence" and for "victimless crimes."

So... Rice beat up the ________.
Good the ______ can sue the bejesus out of the _______.
Wonder if the DA passed it by Gov Christie and Obama before he gave the walkaway.
That’s one take on it; I view it as another preferred minority that apparently shouldn’t be held to the same standard as a white person.
He & Michael Vick would have vanished immediately if they were white.
ping
Well he had to hit the Ho a couple times to get her to straighten up. Don’t ya know.
This first offender program is routinely granted for first time offenders in many states.
Dig a little deeper into the Atlantic County DA, a real jerk, and you will see race does not play a role. Celebrity does, not race. You see this same jerk is presently prosecuting another first time offender and this African-American single mother is not being offered the same deal, but 3-5 years in the slam instead. For what you might ask. She being a concealed carry permit holder in the state of Pennsylvania made the mistake of crossing the border and being pulled over for speeding in Atlantic County. Like she was told to do in PA, she informed the police officer that she was carrying. She was arrested and is know facing serious jail time, she had no criminal record prior, obviously. Both are black, one is a celebrity and the other is not. The one who committed a heinous crime right on video tape is giving the kid glove treatment. The other, who just made an honest mistake is getting the book thrown at her.
A BIG THANK YOU
I was hoping somebody would be posting this because not enough attention is being played to it. FR’s are encouraged to pass this around particularly to their local talk show hosts. I haven’t seen the originial story posted but that should be linked anyime this topic gets posted.
In the News/Activism forum, on a thread titled Program Ray Rice in is rarely granted, gusty wrote:

A ballplayer getting special treatment, who would’ve guessed that? Scream at the NFL, college sports, and high school sports all you want. Every time a ballplayer commits a crime and you continue to give that organization money for your entertainment, you’re the problem. The standard that you walk past is the standard that you accept. Might wanna think about that, fans.
