Gazprombank GPB (OJSC), a Russian bank targeted with sanctions by President Obama over the Ukraine crisis, has hired two former U.S. senators to lobby against those sanctions, according to a new disclosure filed with the Senate.
Gazprombank is controlled by Russia’s state-owned energy company Gazprom, the country’s largest gas producer; it supplies about a third of Europe’s natural gas.
In a filing submitted Friday and effective that day, former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott, R-Miss., and former Senator John Breaux, D-La., are listed as the main lobbyists under the Gazprombank account for the firm Squire Patton Boggs, lobbying on “banking laws and regulations including applicable sanctions.”
Gazprombank GPB (OJSC) is a subsidiary of Gazprombank, Russia’s third largest bank. On July 16th, the U.S. Treasury Department added it to a list of Russian firms barred from debt financing with U.S. institutions.
Lott and Breaux left public service almost a decade ago and are among more than 300 members of Congress who’ve become lobbyists, and begun petitioning former colleagues on behalf of clients, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. In 2008, they started a lobbying firm with their sons, Breaux Lott Leadership Group, which was acquired by D.C.-lobbying powerhouse Patton Boggs in 2010. Patton Boggs merged with Squire Sanders to form Squire Patton Boggs in June.

Once upon a time this poster gave thousands upon thousands of dollars and raised tens of thousands more for the purpose of delivering a GOP House and Senate to President GW Bush. We succeeded in doing just that in 2004.
And nothing, I mean nothing good came of it because GW had gone full RINO by that time and he was surrounded by the likes of Lott and others.
Breaux was a democrat of course but that didn’t stop GW from selecting him as a director of his tax reform commission which produced absolutely zilch, and I mean zero, nothing, nada in tax reform.
Lott, Breaux, McConnell, McCain, etc., Boehner, McCarthy, etc. These guys are paid mercenaries of those with the cash. It’s why republican beltway consultants keep running back to Mitt Romnut because he has the cash.
Congress is for sale to the highest bidder and the taxpayer doesn’e mean squat in the calculations of beltway mercenaries.

Trent was always a democrat, he only ran as a republican because of Reagan, yet there he was Majority leader of the Senate who shared power until he gave it to Harry.
Ol’ Trent has promised Thad a solid gold drool cup, should he win his reelection.

I remember that visit/photo-op, and Cheney saying afterwards that Lott wouldn’t have lasted 5 minutes had he visited a bar in Texas wearing that ‘costume’.(paraphrasing) It was very funny.

Trent switched with Nixon, not Reagan.
The taxpayers though are so uninformed or outnumbered that they know nothing of what you point out.
