Road Trip: Pope Field, North Carolina

Pope Field is a U.S. military facility located 12 miles northwest of the central business district of Fayetteville, in Cumberland County, North Carolina, United States. Formerly known as Pope Air Force Base, the facility continues to be used by the United States Air Force but is now operated by the U.S. Army as part of Fort Bragg.

The United States Army Fort Bragg Garrison is the host organization at Pope Field. The garrison provides airfield support, security, and protection to include emergency medical and fire response, aircraft security and transient alert support.

It also provides installation support and is responsible to execute the Inter Service Support Agreement in providing support to the Air Force tenants to include services, facility maintenance, and morale, welfare and recreation support.

The United States Air Force 43d Airlift Group was activated at Pope on March 1, 2011. The unit performs en route operations support to include mission command & control, aircrew management, aircraft maintenance, aircraft loading, aircraft fueling and supply.

In addition, the USAF 18th Air Support Operations Group, 427th Special Operations Squadron, 21st Special Tactics Squadron, 24th Special Tactics Squadron, and Air Force Combat Control School operate from Pope Field.

The USAF 440th Airlift Wing is a United States Air Force Reserve unit performs airfield operations to include airfield management, weather forecasting, airfield tower control, airfield navigation and landing systems’ maintenance.

The 440th AW is the first Air Force Reserve Wing to have an active duty associate squadron, the 2d Airlift Squadron, which is assigned to the 43d, and shares the airlift mission with the 440th's 95th Airlift Squadron. The association has 16 C-130's. The 43d also has an Air Evacuation Squadron assigned, the 43d AES, which shares the AE mission with the 440th's 36th Air Evacuation Squadron.

Good morning Pro ((HUGS))

I am actually just getting back into the office. Had to take an extra day to go to Roanoke for an aunt’s funeral. Got home late last night, so I’m not a happy cat this morning. Coffee...coffee...today’s mantra! hehe

Going to close office door so no one can bother me. I have some leftover work from last week and some new stuff this morning. Bossman wants to meet to discuss finances tomorrow so I gotta hop to it. Didn’t want to get to far into it without saying good morning.

Hmmm, they have hot summers in Washington state? I thought it was cool summers and frigid snowy winters. Have you found a place yet?

Hiya Beachie! I’ve been looking for new housing on the web and will visit the area soon. Western Washington, ie. the Seattle area is a temperate climate. East of the Cascade mountains is basically fertile desert land, completely different climate.Yakima is the largest apple growing area in the US. It will definately be different from what I’m used to.OK, hope you get caught up, have a great Wednesday!

EXTREMELY URGENT PRAYER REQUEST

I’m requesting prayers for my son’s wife, Tiffany, and their unborn child. My son, Robert, who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and his wife are expecting their 4th child, a girl (Emma Liliana Rose Pinnell) December 15th. Tiffany, who is epileptic, has gone into premature labor and is in the hospital one hour away from Live Oak, Florida. She’s been bleeding for the past two weeks, and at grave risk.

Please alert the FR prayer warriors.
