The image, inspired by the Middle East ambiance of Coachella Valley’s desert landscape of date palms and communities named Mecca and Oasis, was displayed in school murals, on the basketball court and at half-time shows featuring a belly dancer who entertains a student clad in “Arab” garb.
Now, in a compromise with offended Arab Americans, the Coachella Valley Unified School District in Riverside County has dumped the controversial mascot and belly dancer, but held on to its team nickname, Arabs, according to one official. Both sides are also in negotiations over a more benign “Arab” logo.

Use an oil rig with a splodey-vest strapped to it. Arabs really aren’t worth noticing when you take those two things away.
I’d be pretty offended to have an Arab for my mascot too.
I’d hate to have to walk by my own mascot and spit on it everyday.
The new mascot looks like a brussel sprout.

Just from reading the description, the mascot sounds like Corporal Klinger.
Coachella is farming country, I think they should have replaced the offensive mascot with a greased pig. Problem solved and representative of the areas heritage.

They kept the stupid mascot, even after 9-11. An insult to every God-fearing red blooded American. Now they want to add insult to injury by acting as though they are insulted by their identity.
BTW, one of their Arab kin insured the destruction of an all American, harmless sport of hot air ballooning by filing claims and lawsuits against every small business proprietor engaged in hot air ballooning in the Palm Springs to Coachella Valley area, because he had purchased a large parcel of Date Palm trees in between Coachella and the Thermal Airport,...along the drift patterns of the pre-existing hot air balloon routes. THe small business proprietors were unable to compete with the deep pocket Arab adversary, and one-by-one all went bankrupt trying to simply defend their God give rights to work in their own country.
BTW, notice how the Arab places a moat around his foreign compound because in the Muslim thinking, Allah can’t see what happens inside a moat. The facilities inside the moat are commonly understood in Muslim countries as their brothels, sin-houses, places to perform the criminal of activities without accountability.

Replace it with a camel or goat and see if they are appeased.
