NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH, 2014

- - - - - - -

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

A PROCLAMATION

In times of emergency, our Nation pulls together --neighbors support each other, communities react with compassion, and afterward, our country emerges stronger and more resilient. But before emergencies occur, we must make sure we are ready to respond, and it is every American's responsibility to be prepared. There are simple but important steps we can all take to ensure we know what to do and have what we need in the event of a crisis. National Preparedness Month is an opportunity to talk with our families, friends, and colleagues about the risks in our communities and to practice our responses in all the places we regularly visit.

Emergencies -- from hurricanes and wildfires to cyber and terrorist attacks -- can strike anywhere at any time. Americans should be familiar with local threats and hazards and take steps to reduce their devastating impacts. Families should assemble a disaster supplies kit well in advance and have a plan to reconnect after a tragedy. To make sure you are ready in the event of a crisis and to learn more about the types of disasters common in your area, visit www.Ready.gov or www.Listo.gov.

In regions affected by disaster, my Administration invested billions of dollars during the immediate aftermath to support a rapid response. We bolstered coordination with our local, State, tribal, and territorial partners to cut through red tape and kept our commitment to rebuild stronger and fully recover together. We are harnessing our Nation's innovative spirit to develop new tools and technologies that will empower survivors and better inform Americans before, during, and after an emergency. My Administration also launched America's PrepareAthon! to assist with increasing local readiness. Through this initiative, communities across our country will participate in the second national day of action on September 30, providing Americans of all ages with resources and opportunities to increase their preparedness.

Our Nation also faces longer wildfire seasons, more severe droughts, heavier rainfall, and more frequent flooding in a changing climate. That is why, as part of my Climate Action Plan, we are committed to building smarter, more resilient infrastructure that can withstand more frequent and more devastating natural disasters and to supporting our communities as they prepare for these impacts.

When and where emergencies occur are beyond our control -- but how we prepare and how we respond are up to us. This month, we honor the heroes who put the needs and lives of others before their own and rush to help in times of tragedy: our emergency responders and other extraordinary Americans who are prepared to act in critical moments. Let us resolve to be ready for any crisis and work to inspire a new generation of Americans, vested with the knowledge and experience to protect themselves, their families, and their communities in the face of any challenge.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim September 2014 as National Preparedness Month. I encourage all Americans to recognize the importance of preparedness and work together to enhance our national security, resilience, and readiness.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-ninth day of August, in the year of our Lord two thousand fourteen, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-ninth.

BARACK OBAMA

And fuel and maintenance. Don't forget those. They were killers.

This little burg of over 50K has 20 each LE. That’s pretty poor odds on manning, if you are counting.

Are you counting county Sheriff department, state police, national guard?

How many does it take to go door to door and clean out the ‘hoarders’? Most people do not prep and the guvmint can also rely on informants perhaps from well meaning gestures by preppers.

You can say ‘nope’ all you want but does not make it so.

"In 2008, state and local law enforcement agencies employed more than 1.1 million persons on a full-time basis, including about 765,000 sworn personnel (defined as those with general arrest powers)." -- US Department of Justice.

That's the last year accurate numbers were generally available. Add to that the 120,000 Federal law enforcement...

And you get roughly 1.3 million government goons under arms.

There were 115,226,802 households in the US in 2008, per the Census.

Divide the number of households by the number of LE, and remember that not all LE will be available. Some will be off-shift, sick, or home taking care of their family.

How long does it take to search a home, confiscate material that has no categorization, and move on to the next house?

When you are being shot at, and people are pissed.

I wouldn't eat any of the confiscated food, it might be poisoned.

I’ll take your word for your numbers. Add national guard:
According to wiki:
“The Air National Guard has more than 106,000 personnel, and the Army National Guard (ARNG) around 325,000 personnel (as of February 2006).”

There are enough numbers to cause serious problems.

If you are a prepper, then be my guest and widely advertise what you have.

Maybe you don't know, because you never served. I served, as both active and reserve... Reserve and NG are almost always 1/3 deployed overseas, 1/3 training for that deployment, or 1/3 resting from the deployment they just got back from.

So, in CONUS, I would bet less than 200K personnel under arms.

Call all government goons under arms 2 million to make your point.

And 115 million households to search.

Government goons run in packs, like feral humans or dogs do. They always run in groups. Especially when things are dangerous.

And remember... of those 2 million government guys under arms, only 1/3rd can be operative if the rest are to get down-time.

How long does it take to toss a household for contraband?

If they know you are coming, and they are armed and pissed off?

Best case, they might lock down a few liberal, unarmed cities. Best case.

But the liberal unarmed cities have gang-bangers that hate LE and would harass them just to irritate them.

It's a logistical mess for any commander that was told to go house-to-house and collect food.

Where do the vehicles and fuel come from? What happens when people won't cooperate?

Actually I did serve 6 years in the Army Reserve.

OK, let’s take your numbers:
~120 million households
~ 2 million goons
So each goon would have to search 60 houses.

Say they go in packs of 3-4 that is ~200 houses to search per pack of goons.

If they search 5 houses a day that’s ~40 days to search every house in the US.

I am glad we had this conversation. I think getting searched in Obama’s America is a distinct possibility. Keeping two stashes with one sacrificial one to be confiscated makes a lot of sense to me.

The same place that DHS is storing the billions of round of ammo that they bought over the last few years.

They never go in packs of 3-4. Cops always go in packs of 20.

I don't know if you have noticed... It's only PBI that gets to clear houses with 3-4, and then, you have to have a significant reserve to support them if they get into trouble.

For goodness sake, don't poison the sacrificial stash. That would be unlawful. And mean. And maybe racist. ;)

I'm always willing to run the numbers again. It was a good, if informal table-top.

With civilians at the depot. Civilians with familities they are searching in the real world.

Support dries up quick when it gets to that.

Cops don't do maintenance, they pay civilian contractors to do that.
