On Friday Fox News host and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) called on conservatives to stop the fight over the Common Core standards and, instead, consider the positive effects the nationalized standards might have on students in poor-performing schools.
As ABC News reports, Huckabee, considered to be a 2016 presidential hopeful, was addressing the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC) in Washington, a group that includes over 40,000 churches and 16 million evangelical Hispanics.
In February, the NHCLC announced its endorsement of the Common Core standards and its plans to launch a nationwide campaign to salvage the increasingly unpopular initiative. On September 7, the groups pastors plan to pitch the controversial standards initiative to their congregations during their sermons.
I dont support what Common Core has become in many states or school districts, Huckabee told his Fox News audience last December. Look, Im dead set against the federal government creating a uniform curriculum for any subject. I oppose the collection of personal data on students that would identify them and then track them, and certainly any effort to give that personal information to the federal government.
Just one month earlier, however, Huckabee urged the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), one of the creators and owners of the Common Core standards, to get rid of the Common Core name because it had become toxic.
Rebrand it, refocus it, but dont retreat, Huckabee told the CCSSO.
By calling on conservatives to stop the fight against standards for which support across the country is plummeting, Huckabee is casting himself squarely as an establishment candidate, against potential GOP candidates who know that the Common Core initiative will lead to greater federal control of education and less control by state legislatures and local school districts and parents.

Reason #729 Mike Huckabee is a complete idiot.
Some people thought he would be a good choice for president. He’s clueless.
And, 2., no way the media will ever let a former Baptist preacher become president. He better stick to this Fox News program because that’s going to be his best way to ever CASH IN.
One Dope from Hope was already too many.
LMAO.
students in poor-performing schools
Its not the schools - its the students.

True. In basketball there’s a saying that goes “you can’t teach height”.
And in schools you can’t teach native born IQ.
You can lead a student to books, but you can’t make him think.
I saw through this liberal preacher (I.E. Elmer Gantry) many, many years ago and have NEVER trusted him as a true conservative. As a politician he is nothing more than a “flim-flam man.”
“Fool me once...shame on you. Fool me twice...shame on me.”
I watch Fox every day and the only program I skip on a regular basis is his. I simply can’t stand him!!!!!
Go home Mike. Stay out of the race.
Politically this guy is dead to me. The sad thing is, Huckabee is well liked by many people who are then led astray by his non-nonsensical version of go along to get along.
Shame on you Mike. You could have been a great force for good.
Common Core should be a no-go for Conservatives. Now more will buy in because Mike has his head firmly implanted.
Feel free to ping him with your Thank You! if you like.
I disagree, we need as many moderates to run so they can be the ones who take votes from each other for once, instead of it being the conservatives.
What I find interesting about this is that he is saying it a few days after I read that Common Core is losing support at all levels.
He’s telling us to give up the fight while we’re winning. And his excuse also supports nationalized standards, which I’m also against. Education is not a FedGov concern.
Huckabee, murderer by proxy. Twice!
“MIKE HUCKABEE TO CONSERVATIVES: ‘STOP THE FIGHT’ OVER COMMON CORE”
Corrected title.
RINO Mike Huckabee to Conservatives: ‘STOP THE FIGHT’ OVER COMMON CORE” - OBAMA WON.
That's the GOPe in a nutshell.
Maybe true. But I’m just sick of listening to them.
I am ashamed this pr**k played at the 2000 Freeper Inaugural Ball.
Conservatives to Mike Huckabee: “No!”
Seems more like Gomer Pyle to me.
