The violence that turns a small-town protest into a fiery national spectacle like the one that has played out this month in Missouri is often unwittingly provoked by police, according to researchers at UC Berkeley.

The research team, which studied clashes between police and activists during the Occupy movement three years ago, found that protests tend to turn violent when officers use aggressive tactics, such as approaching demonstrators in riot gear or lining up in military-like formations.

Oh, those evil police fellars and gals!! Evil Evil Evil!!!

The latest study from Berzerkeley, the home of uhhhhhh sumthin' uhhh.. using Ferguson as the template of how to destroy a community.. when you don't even live there.

It's twue! IT's TWUE!!

Police actually grab protesters hands and put rocks and sticks in them and make them bash windows and hit police and then loot the stores and businesses.. Shameful!!

Thank You, Berzerkeley! If anyone knows unwitting,, You deliver again.. Now go have another hit!

Yup, those violent felons would be not quite as violent felons if we’d let them commit their felonies in peace.

And one wonders why UC Berkley has the intellectual respect normally given to your local trash bin.

I reckun folks just don’t fear authority figures these days.

The cancer that is spreading across the social media networks has come home to roost.. on the streets and in the alleys .. and the hallways of Congre$$.. and we ask police to step to the front to confront and control the mayhem that lies beneath the surface of the fabric of society.

Exploitation of events is nothing new.

It just cost all of us a lot more in so many more ways than it used to.

There is a grain of truth to this and I should hope that FReepers don’t have such short memories that we’ve so soon forgotten the overly aggressive police tactics that precipitated the armed stand off at the Bundy Ranch.

Thos mean police officers, they are those nasty people who want me, YES ME, to obey so many stupid laws. I want that flat screen and those nikes and I’m going to just smash the glass and take them and it is all the police mans’s fault...

sometimes the police do provoke violence... they are not blameless in the Ferguson events... however, they do not provoke looting... some people will use any excuse to loot...

For God’s sake MeganC, put a fricken cork in it.

This isn’t the Bundy Ranch. None of us are advocating for the Bundy Ranch.

Why do you and others let Berkley manipulate you like this?

If the police had refused to show up for the store looting, arson, robberies and things like that then there would have been no arrests or clashes with police.

So, I guess it logically follows that it's all the fault of the police.
