A woman was rushed to hospital and hundreds of people were quarantined today after she showed symptoms of Ebola virus infection in a jobcentre in Germany. As many as 600 visitors and staff at the employment office building in Berlin were also stopped from leaving for several hours as emergency services sealed off part of the street. The mass-circulation daily Bild said the woman had fainted, that she hailed from Nigeria and that she said later that she had recently been in contact with people infected with Ebola.

Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
Preppers’ PING!!
This is how pandemics work. Pretty scary.
Doctor: "Lady, why didn't you tell us straight away that you had been in contact with real Ebola victims (plural)?"
Lady: "What difference does it make?"
Incubation period is from one to three weeks from what I understand. This woman showed serious symptoms today.
Probably several thousand could easily have come into contact with her directly or indirectly by this time. And they in turn came in contact with...
Wow - I need a calculator.
I still wonder why these countries allow entry of Ebola-ite people.
Need to take the song, “Lola” by the Kinks and replace it with Ebola.
There are limited facilities for ebola here and around the world. It won’t take long before all the plastic tents are gone. Remember, America can’t be bothered to have ample supplies of saline.

Dude, news on way home this afternoon said Kaiser hospital in South Sacramento has a possible case under negative pressure isolation...
No reason to worry at all.
Ebola is only contagious once symptoms appear. Also, Ebola is not spread through aerosols, but by direct contact with infected fluids, including droplets. So, if this woman vomited or had diarrhea and droplets got onto people, there could be a problem. Otherwise, not.
Personally, I think it is silly to announce every potential case being tested for Ebola. There are many other diseases in Africa, including other hemorrhagic fevers. If a case pops positive, *then* I want to see the results.
Can you provide a link to the source on this? I've searched the CDC and other Ebola sites and none of them state this specifically.
I see the CDC has updated its page. It does state that Ebola is not contagious until symptoms appear. Two weeks ago, there was no information on the CDC site stating that.
A symptom is a headache or fever. You could walk around for three weeks with nothing but a nagging headache before more severe symptoms are noticed. Imagine how many public toilets you’ve splattered tinkle in, how many waitstaff you’ve asked to refill your coffee, how many times you’ve sneeze or coughed on passersby, how many kleenexes the office’s custodians have discarded, how many times you’ve kissed your loved ones, how many times you’ve prepared the family’s meals and how many times you’ve left sweat on the subway turnstill?
I think the ambulance crew should have asked me that question to find out immediately if I had been in an infected area.
