This app should be REQUIRED during school hours. Kids have no "NEED" to be able to contact anybody except 911 and Parents.

I can’t believe people actually survived without a phone glued to their head 24/7 in years past.
To: Tax-chick
maybe a good idea but it shows what has happened to parents who can;t even get their kids to reply to calls
I have 3 kids and I have told them that they need to have that phone with them and they need to answer it.
I have never had a problem with them though they also never get in trouble and do what is right.

I’m guessing you’ve taught them the meaning of “consequences”?

Our children get a phone when they’re old enough to sign up for it themselves (18) and pay for it themselves.

There is a new breed of zombie in the land. Earbuds in, head down, both thumbs and eyes on the screen, and oblivious to their surroundings...

I've had verizon for years. Verizon has long permitted online management of a device. Each of my children has experienced their device going dead when my calls or texts went ignored. Very shortly after deactivating, I would receive a frantic call from an unknown number. It would be one of the boys telling me their phone no longer worked.
I would reply that since I pay the bills and my calls went unanswered, I didn't need the device anymore. Message received.

This story says so much about our current society:
The idea that kids have to be in constant contact with their parents. As another poster said, there used to be a time when you could go a whole day without talking to your parents and no one thought anything of it.
Kids who ignore their parents vs. parents who want to control their kids (if you don’t respond, I’m going to shut down your phone . . .).
I’m not sure kids with cell phones is a good idea precisely because it creates a situation where they can be in constant contact with a parent.

Oh they know consequences and work for what you want as well as doing well at school and respecting adults.

work for what they want , good for them.
Shame there are kids out there like in Ferguson who would rather rob off others.

kids out there like in Ferguson who would rather rob off others. They think the "stuff" will make them happy, but it never will. I'd say you can only find happiness in Christ, but I know people who are exceptions, so instead, I'll say that you'll never even begin to find contentment unless you have good character and are doing something worthwhile with your life.

They are zombies of our own creation. We must rip out their earbuds and tie their thumbs together.

So, you don’t care if your kids ignore you?
Or, are you suggesting there’s some legitimate NEED for kids to be texting or calling others during school?

If you’ve raised a kid who thinks it’s an option to ignore your calls, you will probably have worse problems further down the road.
