It’s a called a BOLO.
It’s normal to question suspects or witnesses after a robber has fled.

The reports said one officer responded to the robbery, then after viewing the video and making his report he proceeded to the man’s death and viewed him and recognized him as the thief.

But the other officer had already shot and killed him.

"How they got inside the cop car and a shot was fired makes no sense with the claims of Brown’s accomplice. How the cop had a swollen face that needed medical care also makes no sense with that story. And the lack of blood and bullet holes in Brown’s back doesn’t fit either..."

Here's a plausible scenario:

The cop spots a couple of punks walking in the middle of the street and tell them to get on the sidewalk. They then smart-off BIG TIME.

Cop backs up, stops and starts to get out of his car...and the dead guy shoves the door back at him, injures the cop.

Cop fires one and hits, but perp/deadguy is retreating quick. Cop screams "Stop or I'll shoot" , dead guy turns around and put his hands up.

Cop is enraged, say's eff it and shoots anyway.

There's probably several dozen other plausible scenarios. There will need to be SOME physical evidence to back one or more of them.

Then the reason for the shooting must have been self-defense.

Do cops carry more than one gun?

You know, in my years here at FR I’ve never used language even approaching this to another FReeper, so you get the honor of being first -F Off. I’ve no use for an apologist for a thug who laid hands upon a much smaller man because he wanted to intimidate him while he robbed him.

“Absent that, they will have to show the officer was under imminent threat.”

But these days you just have to FEEL threatened whether there is an actual threat or not.

That’s what the libs want-—maybe that’s what they’ll get.

“The police chief said today that Officer Wilson’s initial contact with Mike Brown was unrelated to the robbery.”

I saw that. Earlier reports stated that the policeman left another event in response to the robbery call out.

No, that doesn’t work because the 2 were inside the cop car and the gun went off inside the cop car. I think Brown’s accomplice acknowledged that Brown was inside the cop car.

Here is protocol.
Suspects fled but in area.
Cops come up and now look for witnesses and suspects.
They question people in the area, and so it is normal for what happened.
Yes I know it doesn’t go along with left wing talking points but most facts don’t anyway

Unless the subject poses a subsequent threat to the community. Having committed strong-armed robbery, then tried to kill a cop, I’d say Brown did. Wilson should be no-billed. Let them riot.

Sorry for ya, but the officer who killed him didn’t even know he’d robbed the store. And you had such a convenient little scenario going there too. Too bad.

Sorry for you, but the Gentle Giant was facing 5 to 10 for strong armed robbery (a typical sentence, don't know about Missouri). This would have interfered with him "turning his life around", and given him plenty of incentive to go for the officer's gun, even if it was a standard "get off the street" type of stop. Also, IIRC the dispatch mentioned Gentle Giant by name, meaning that police were probably very familiar with his pre-"turned-his-life-around" antics, and the officer probably knew who this 300 pound monster was (300 pound feral predators don't exactly grow on trees). Even if he wasn't mentioned by name (I am taking everything reported with a huge grain of salt), the physical description would have been enough, in all likelihood. The Gentle Giant's assault on the officer would have been potentially deadly, and, as I said, GG was facing a significant sentence that would have interfered with his academic plans.

At a minimum, Gentle Giant would have agitated, since he had not yet had time to consume his blunts.

Dead guys was unarmed. Not sure the Tueller Drill applies, and it going to be VERY difficult to show imminent threat when the dead guy was once in, or nearly in the car, but died 35ft away.

Unless there a blood trail from the car to the point of collapse AND all the brass is within about 6ft of the car.

The newly discovered fact that Wilson confronted Brown not merely for jaywalking, but for robbery (a violent crime) means that Wilson not only had a perfectly good reason to shoot Brown in the first place–-self defense of his own life when Brown attacked him and tried to grab his gun-–but that after that, Wilson was also justified in shooting Brown if he indeed fled. Use of deadly force policy warrants it if the person is deemed at the time to be a further threat to the community, which after the act of robbery and of trying to kill a cop, Brown certainly would have been.

Was the cop much smaller?
Did the cop feel threatened?

Obviously he did for what he did and being 35 ft away , well that;s nothing as he could have easily slumbered that far
