A large police SWAT team showed up to a peaceful demonstration in Ferguson, Missouri and the scene is getting increasingly tense, reports Huffington Post's Ryan J. Reilly, who is currently on the ground.
Soon after the team of more than 70 officers came on the scene, they told protesters they needed to leave the area and that "this [was] not open for discussion," Reilly tweeted. MSNBC reporter Trymain Lee tweeted that police told the crowd, "Go home, return to your vehicles. The protesters responded, "Mike can't go home!"
"Your right to assembly is not being denied," the police said later over a loudspeaker.

Greg Gutfeld made an excellent point today on The Five. He asked why we have to pick a side. Why can’t we call for justice AND calm?
That’s where I am. I hate the militarization of the police and the looting.
See, that is racist. Everyone knows that the Tea Party is all white. Your race card account will be revoked over racist comments like that. At least at DU.
/sarcasm off/
Bump that.
This is America????
The imbecile GibMeDat Blacks shot themselves in the head to call attention to the militarization and brutal Police State tactics against citizens - but seeing what amounts to martial law on the streets - the precedent and the desensitizing of this people to an every-day a brutal Police State is frightening.
Ryan Reilly of HuffPo and Wesley Lowery of WaPo both arrested. No idea why.
Sign of the times. As America resembles Ferguson, MO more and more, the cops must - at least be better armed.
First they’ll use it against a group that everyone wants to see whipped, then they’ll start using it on peaceful protestors.
Two officers on top of SWAT truck are relaxed, weapons across laps.
I wouldn’t expect looting but I would expect “stand your ground”.
And it is an honor that you replied to me! :)
Tweeps claim two reporters were arrested for not packing their bags quickly enough when police cleared McDonalds.
Im not sure just who to root for in this case.

Not saying I agree with these sentiments, but many have the same problem:
The thugs with badges or the thugs without.
One officer on SWAT truck watching protesters through his scope.
They may have gone to a tactical frequency that is either scrambled or digitally encrypted. Or, in this day and age they may simply be using cell phones.

Thank you very much. Honored to have you with us.
Daylight fading, some protesters showing up with masks over their faces.
Bingo.
When they came for the Jews, I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a Jew ...
What we have here is a crowd of not very sympathetic people, who are over-reacting to a shooting. Now the government is close to imposing something like martial law, and a lot of Conservatives are saying, "Yeah! Go cops! A little crowd control, please!!"
You know, when Obama cracks down on us, it might not be so heart-warming. We live in a police state now. People shouldn't cheer about that.
Ubama gave his civilian army the “go” signal to start the civil war.
Just looked up the crime stats for the area where SWAT is set up.
It is not a “High Crime” area, not even close.
Either they are putting on a show or they are concerned about troublemakers coming in from other locations.
I get the impression that this is a SHOW !!!
