When you get farmers, dentists and folks who have never fought before going up against a ruthless opposition in Assad, the notion that they were in a position to suddenly overturn not only Assad but also ruthless, highly trained jihadists if we just sent a few arms is a fantasy. - Barack Obama to CBS on June 22
Editor's note: Obama reiterated the statement to Tom Friedman of The New York Times in an interview published on August 9.
In one sentence, U.S. President Barack Obama disregarded the thousands of soldiers who defected from the Syrian Army since the uprising against Bashar al-Assad began in March 2011.

Free Syrian Army sounds much nicer than ISIS.

Did he ever read of the US Revolutionary War? I think maybe not.

Obama, Hillary Clinton and John Kerry are idiots incapable of understanding, less successfully dealing with, the situation in the Middle East. Its amateur hour in our national leadership and has been for years. Dune Meister; you have control.

Kind of ironic, Obama talking about inexperience.

Obama lost his nerve because Putin backed Assad. Plain and simple.

At this point, the only people I can see that we might consider arming are the Kurds in Iraq. At least theyve been solid allies.Obama does not seem to be in the habit of arming our allies...It's our enemies who are profiting from Obama...

Hey. No doubt. At least we tried nation building there after overthrowing him. Obama simply overthrew and sat back like a kid watching bird die from a bb pellet.

Dear Mr President...
The American farmer is in large part responsible for not just creating, but sustaining this nation for the better part of our existence. Questions on the efficacy of farmers in righteous rebellion may be directed to the British consulate...

Believe this was posted here earlier today. Seems this should be seen again. Not that o dark won would know about God, or even farming. Dentistry, perhaps -he is an antidentit so even that is doubtful. We are aware as to how he feels about Israel.
And please, antidentite may not be spelled perfectly but it the word was spoken on Seinfeld.

It’s the internet... words of questionable provenance are allowed.
Not a huge Seinfeld fan, but imagine if the urban dictionary had been in full swing during that show’s heyday... I think they’d have gotten their own appendix.

In this case, Obama happened to say something that was correct.
The fractured “Syrian free Army” was no match for Assad and they were no competition for “anti-Assad” fighters with the Islamist militant-terrorist groups.
Politically, they always were a front for the Islamists & brought into the “Syrian opposition” coalition because their supposed “moderate stance” made them attractive and thus the entire “Syrian opposition” attractive in the west, but even at the core of the political grouping known from the start as the “Syrian opposition” the Islamists, in the form of the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood actually made up the core of the leaders pulling the strings.
The fellow-traveler moderates were cannon fodder for the Islamists and intentional martyrs to the cause until the heavy fighters the anti-Assad Jihadists were brought in.

Assad protected the minorities in Syria while the jihadists on the rebel’s side rape and murder them.
