U.S. President Barack Obama authorized air strikes on Iraq to protect Christians and prevent "genocide" of tens of thousands of members of an ancient sect sheltering on a desert mountaintop from Islamic State fighters threatening to exterminate them.
The United States began to drop relief supplies to refugees from the ancient Yazidi sect, but there was no sign yet of air strikes, which Obama authorized for the first time since pulling troops out in 2011.
... U.S. oil majors Exxon Mobil and Chevron evacuated expatriate staff from Iraqi Kurdistan on Thursday, industry sources said. Smaller oil companies that operate in Kurdistan also evacuated staff and cut back operations, and several saw their shares fall sharply on Thursday and Friday.

It will be interesting to watch the media try to cover this while avoiding the subject of how the current sad mess in Iraq suddenly came about.
So he’ll hit a few aspirin factories then declare victory.
I’ve become so cynical over the past 5 years that my instinct is to believe we are bombing Christians and protecting Muslims over there.

Really? I figured he was attempting to mitigate the horrific affects of his gross negligence.
He protects those abroad to make himself look good while leaving our backdoor and inviting everyone over for free BBQ and beer then sends you the bill to pay for it all...
+1
I believe the latter only, and in doing so they might’ve twisted his arm, so to speak. One thing about Obama he is nowhere near as transparent as GWB.
Funny you should say that. My wife who is usually not cynical said “I wonder if Obama will send planes to bomb them over there and they will fly over and bomb Israel “accidentally” when they are given the “wrong” coordinates”.
Obama coming to the aid of Christians ....

Who says so? Raheem Salman? Last time I looked Yazidi’s weren’t Christians.
In the meanwhile.... Christians in Iraq and other places are being murdered with nary a peep from our HMIC*.
*Head Muzzie In Charge.
Hey skeeter. Lucky for the Iraqis that we’ll be using smart bombs that will be able to detect innocents and not cause them any harm unlike the Israelis who are supposedly targeting and bombing nurseries full of babies* in the country of palestine(?). :>}
*future jihadis/suicide murderers.
You all know the US will also have to send more troops to Afghanistan, right?
More and more with each passing day, Obama shows himself to be weak and incompetent. Our enemies know this and will take advantage of this at every opportunity.
Drudge is reporting via NBC that USN F-18s are dropping 500lb bombs on Arbil, Iraq.
Check out a map if you don’t grasp the logistical corner the Puppet has put us in if the only planes to interdict here are Navy...
It is amazing how fast the wheels are coming off. Everything.
Obama authorized air strikes because Iran sent word through Valerie Jarrett that they are alarmed by ISIS’s success. Obama couldn’t care less about what happens to Iraqis of any flavor at the hands of ISIS but, when Iran says “jump”, he says “how high” on the way up.
Put the dots together... There must have been a mutiny where some pilots had finally had enough. After seeing ISIS behead little children and display their heads on wooden stakes, and Obama refusing to do anything, they decided "To Hell with Obama. We're gonna kick some ass, no matter what happens to me or my career." And that's what they started doing. There was a mutiny, and this after-the-fact "authorization" of air strikes is meant simply to cover Obama's ass.
Pilots? Maybe—but I think the mutiny started higher up the chain of command, Maybe not just the military “chain”, but that of the Dim party who see a real Waterloo coming in November!
