At 74,000 pages, the IRS code is a mind-boggling ode to lobbying, pork-barrel spending and graft. These are the only good things that I can say about the IRS.
Ode may be too friendly a word, however.
Lets instead call it an incantation for our country. Because the code holds a country in thrall like the winged monkeys in Dorothys Oz were held. And until the witch is dead, we monkeys must do her bidding.
Politicians, economists and ordinary citizens cant follow the tax code, which has tripped up cabinet nominees, majority leaders and others who ought to know better. But they dont know better, and not just because of the venality of these people at the topyeah there is that too-- but because the code is too complex.
Increasingly our government is proving indispensable to us by making things so complex that nothing works, from our economy to our tax code, without a great deal of forcing. That square peg indeed will go in that round hole just as soon as the government rams it down our throats.
The National Taxpayers Advocate must release a report every year detailing the top problems facing the agency because there are a lot of problems. Tax compliance, political interference, and opaque language top the list of complaints.
60 percent of filers use a professional service to compute their taxes according to the National Taxpayers Advocate, which has identified preparer fraud as a top priority amongst items for reform. The rest of are thinking that perhaps the role of the taxpayer advocate is to do away with the need to use tax preparers in the first place.
That would reduce fraud quite a bit. They cant steal if you dont give them the opportunity.
A recent non-scientific survey of people not named Joe Biden revealed that 100 percent of tax filers would rather use a simple postcard sized return limited to about five lines.
And then there is the question of fairness.
Increasingly the IRS is used as a social policy and enforcement arm for the federal government. Getting past the undue scrutiny of non-profit applications turned in by conservative-sounding groups, the administration has not been hesitant to use the IRS to muscle industry too.
When the unions complained that too many sub-contractors were being used in residential and commercial construction at the expense of union employees, the Fairness Brigade at the IRS swung into action, forcing long and expensive audits of companies wage and hour practices.
But then there is still the serious issue of non-profit activity.
Some in the country view non-profits as a kind of carve out for special interests when in fact the real special interests reside solely with the government. The money in our economy is NOT the governments money. Its ours: mine and yours.
We allow government to tax us to fund certain agreed upon activities. Some of us make better use of the roads that few of us builtand no one built for free-- and therefore we get to pay higher taxes for the privilege.
But if you listen to liberals and our governmentthe burden of proof that anything doesnt belong to the governmentyou know besides Sandra Flukes uterus, which I think we can all agree, is a kind of national monument to stupidityresides today with individuals and private organizations.
We dont have the presumption that private property is innocent, but rather that it has to be defended, and is clearly guilty of SOMETHING. You know, like a Catholic University denying a student-- Sandra Fluke-- who went there voluntarily, a product or convenience-- birth control-- that is against the conscience of the religious organization that now must pay for it according to the IRS-- because the university uses roads too.
Clarify the level of political activity that exempt organizations may conduct, recommends the National Taxpayer Advocate as the solution to the IRS targeting conservative groups, and establish an objective test to identify when an organization exceeds that level.
Sure, we could do that.
Or instead, we could recognize that the only reason non-profits have to prove they arent political is because the government forgot that non-profit money wasnt theirs to begin with.
And thats the most generous thing I can say about government today.
The EXEMPT do not care.
Why? They are EXEMPT from the IRS.
EXEMPT from all Law.
EXEMPT from DeathCARE.
EXEMPT from DO”J” quartering of tuberculosis.
EXEMPT from danger from narcoterrorists and Islamic
terrorists whom the EXEMPT and their undocumented
Indonesian King bring in, by the hour.
“But if you listen to liberals and our governmentthe burden of proof that anything doesnt belong to the governmentyou know besides Sandra Flukes uterus, which I think we can all agree, is a kind of national monument to stupidityresides today with individuals and private organizations.”
I thought this was Mark Steyn. This guy’s good.
Is this about the IRS sending atheist snitches into churches to report “unauthorized political activity” to the Feds?
Yes, I think they would. Muzzies in churches would be too obvious.
irs and fairness in the same sentence?
Absolutely, and here's a brochure explaining why:

This is very good.
The premise is that the government believes all things and everyone belongs to it. And it is up to us for the burden of proof for anything that we believe does not belong to the government. And yet, given the governments presupposition, we will always lose.
What belongs to the government (or so they think):
- our income
- our homes
- our children
- etc.
The government has successfully taken dominance in many areas, and we see it is trying to take dominance in areas that the government knows it is weak. It wants full ownership of all that we have. So after successfully taken full ownership over many things, the government then identifies where it has weak dominance and goes after those.
Weak government dominance:
- gun
- churches
So we see very clearly the attack on guns and now on churches.
Is there anything else we have that the government does not own?
There is a position that voters gave government dominance in areas they are not constitutionally empowered to legislate. Voters can elect someone to legislate constitutionally or unconstitutionally.
Corruption exist within both major parties and there is considerable evidence that people vote for the corruption that favors their interest.
“There is a position that voters gave government dominance in areas they are not constitutionally empowered to legislate.”
Interesting position. Not sure I agree with it.
As soon as someone gets voted in, they take an oath to uphold the constitution - not an oath to violate the constitution. So the person violating their oath is a lawbreaker. This doesn’t have anything to do with the voters.
I strongly disagree!
The voters have everything to do with corrupt politicians, everything.
Voters should not be voting someone in office that they know are corrupt. I agree.
Maybe I jumped the discussion.
Let me try this.
Voters vote an official in office that they know are corrupt and are in agreement with their corruption. The voters get what they deserve and are also culpable for any corruption. Definitely, God will judge them (the voters) as a nation. This is what we have today with Obama. So I agree and I don’t want to downplay this. You are correct.
But I disagree that this gives legal authority to violate the law.
