Can a Third Party be Formed Without Helping Democrats Win?
Barb Wire ^ | August 5, 2014 | Steve Baldwin

When one speaks with fellow Republicans about the future of the GOP, it is common to receive some negative feedback. This is because many conservative/libertarian Republicans feel the party has simply not done enough to challenge the Obama agenda. There is a widespread feeling among the rank and file that the country is hurtling toward socialism while Republican leaders sit on the sidelines and either do nothing or propose ways to manage socialism more effectively.

...

I have given up on the GOP and am simply not sure it can ever be reformed.

...

For a Third Party to be effective, millions of voters need to join it, become active, recruit others and support its candidates. Moreover, millions of dollars would need to be raised to market the party and fight for ballot access changes. I propose that a website be set up that collects pledges. By that, I mean a person would log on, register themselves, and then electronically sign a “pledge” that commits him or her to vote for a Third Party when the party officially launches. Of course, such a pledge cannot be legally binding, but I doubt most voters would go through the process of registering themselves online unless they were serious. Of course, there would be some fraud, but that would be factored in when determining how much support the new party has.

The when part is the key to this effort. When the number of pledges reaches, say, twenty million voters nationwide, only then does the party launch and actually field candidates. The same kind of tactic could be used to raise money for the new party. When contribution pledges reaches, say, $50 million dollars, the party launches. No more feeble third parties that get 1% of the vote.

The author also discusses the framing of a common platform. His important point, though, is the use of the Internet to jump start a new party by coordinating its would-be supporters. This would avoid the problems that have dogged minor party efforts in the past.

The “GOPe” is a result of the leftward swing of the electorate. The only way we’ll get Conservatives elected again is to win the electorate over to Conservative values.

NO!

America will be destroyed beyond repair by the time a 3rd Party can take hold.

We need sustained reform of the GOPe.

I believe the Republican party was formed from the bones of the Wig party. If I recall, a significant number of power players defected to the new party. Essentially, they dissolved one party and left the old fogies behind and the vital bits formed the new party. But it was not “new” in total. It was the distilled viable elements of the old party and none (?) of the bad stuff. It would take the combined efforts of Sarah Palin, Ted Cruz and several other players to make a viable party that wouldn’t automatically mean a Democrat win.

Let’s face it, there just aren’t enough of us to change anything. Our government has subsidized the moochers and you always get more of what you subsidize.

One way to do it is to start in a region, and have a state third party guy like a conservative version of Angus King or Bernie Sanders. You can either pick a state that is conservative, but corrupt, like Mississippi, or a very liberal state like Massachusetts where the Republican Party is so weak they can be easily replaced.

Money, big money, would be necessary to get the ball rolling. We also would need intelligent men and women who won’t go coo-coo at the wrong time (Bob Smith, Bob Barr.)

One scenario I had envisioned for the national level would be to have an uber conservative on a third party ballot with good populist credentials, and a superwealthy VP candidate to do the funding.

I think since Ralph Nader cost the Dems the 2000 POTUS election, they have:

1) Figured out how to put the crimp on third party efforts that bleed D votes.

2) Figured out that third party efforts to bleed R votes will often produce a Clintonian plurality win when the D candidate is not a majority favorite. Under the table funding works wonders here.

Support the workers party, the green party, the socialist party, etc., and siphon support from the democrats.

It would have to be a fourth party. A third party, linked to Dem interests and shared Republican interests was formed in March 2014 had a celebration in Chicago and an inaugural celebration in DC. It is the US Muslim Council of Organisations, an exclusive organisation of Muslim Brotherhood organisations in the US. It is organized to maximize Muslims voting as blocs in local, state and national elections with sponsership of as many candidates as possible and to mazimize Muslim political effectiveness as much as possible, the interests being those of the Muslim Brotherhood, so close to the interests of the current administration within the US and in the ME. The media ignored the ushering in of this new, pro-sharia, religiously supported political party.

Here is an excellent overview presented by Gaffney’s Center for Security Policy:

The GOPe is a party completely controlled by corporate special interests. They are for sale to the highest bidder.

They have absolutely no interest in serving their constituents.

They throw red meat around election time to try to get voters to the polls instead of annunciating coherent message.

Hurtling toward socialism? How about outright communism? Possibly the only difference, is that they haven't opened up the reeducation camps yet.

The goal would be to have a conservative party and the dems as the two main parties. The moderates in the GOP can be the third or minority party. It will take a couple of years, but we could have a candidate for president in 2016. I’m ready to write checks to establish a major conservative party.

More than the GOPe helps the democrats win (in all their efforts) now?

- I doubt it is possible.

I’d like to see a conservative third party emerge. The GOPe has lurched so far left, the two main parties are becoming indistinguishable.

Doubtful.
We need to really put the screws to the GOP.
Vote all the RINOS out.

The Libertarian and Constitutions parties should merge.

Concessions must be made. The LP should recognize that national security, being pro-life, and stopping the illegal invasion are non-negotiable issues. The CP must realize that most people aren't bible-thumpers and simply want to be left alone. Social issues, such as marriage and marijuana, should be decided by the states, not by Washington.

Once these differences are ironed out, the new party should simply call itself the New Constitution Party, and they would attract a huge cross-section of voters.
