A SOCIAL media trend #WomenAgainstFeminism is creating controversy overseas, going viral in the US and re-opening debate on how far women have really come.
The movement originated from a Tumblr post in which photos have been posted of women holding up signs explaining why they don’t need feminism.
The explanations vary from “I do like being feminine”, “catcalling isn’t rape”, “cooking for my husband is not oppression”, “I love to be sexy for my man”, to “I don’t need something that tells me the actions of a slut are okay”. Here’s a few posts we found on Twitter:
The reaction to the posts have varied, with many complaining that the women do not understand feminism, while others suggest that some of the comments are a “reasonably fair description of a large, influential, highly visible segment of modern feminism”.
One of the women, Danielle Gieger, complained on Facebook that she had received death threats over her post, which said: “my self worth is not directly tied to the size of my victim complex!”

This idea could go viral.
Maybe critical masses of blacks will decide they don’t need NAACP, Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson, et. al.
Maybe critical numbers of Hispanics will see that La Raza doesn’t do anything for them.
And so on down the list of grievance groups.
Well, what do you know.
Social media is finally good for something.
They are the true feminists.
Maybe women are realizing that men don’t suck after all.
And maybe life is far more satisfying if they’re able to just be themselves and pursue their own goals for their own reasons.
I don’t know that we need a big movement to say we don’t need feminism. I mean, I never did jump on that band wagon as feminism was always embraced by and for liberal women. We were never welcome and when’s the last time a so-called feminist supported and/or defended right-wing or conservative women?
As a woman I’ve been more than a little insulted when I hear the liberal talk about “women’s issues.” Or that women voters are only interested in certain things and I would be screaming, no, no, no! That was self-limiting and small thinking.
I am quite capable of educating myself and adopting an opinion on any issue out there.
Still, there are many people that do condescend to you if you’re a woman and that’s just a fact. I’ve experienced that many times over in the past but then that’s life. Being a strong woman you simply handle it like anything else. And consider the source!
Can you cook? I'm not your maid!

Women never needed radical feminism. Radical feminism has been a disaster for this country. Steinem, Friedan, the whole lot of them are villainesses not heroines.
A man needs a feminist like a bicycle needs a fish.

The article says, “Prof Bulbeck said in the late 60s and 70s, when it was illegal to work if you were married and women had to be paid less than men, gender oppression was much more visual.”
It was *illegal* to work in the 1960’s and 1970’s?
Well somebody didn’t tell that to my grandmother... or my mother... or my aunts. WTF?!
Has *anybody* ever heard of this?
And women *had* to be paid less than men? Like by law??
SO I thought, “Well, this is an australian publication,” and did some research.
From what I’ve found, it was expected for married women to stay home, but not illegal for them to work. The history I’m finding goes back to the 1800’s, so I don’t know what country she’s talking about.
I don’t think it was illegal for a woman to work in the 60’s and 70’s
Do their students believe these lies?
There were Puritan women running taverns in the Plymouth Colony before the women back in the UK even had standing in court or to own any property or business. (excepting maybe the nobility)
