claim Ukraine one day ahead of talks with Russia over access to the scene
Pro-Russian rebels have booby-trapped MH17 crash site with landmines, according to Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, making it impossible for international investigators to access the scene of the crash.
Ukrainian military spokesman Andriy Lysenko said the rebels were digging in for battle near the crash site: 'They have brought a large number of heavy artillery there and mined approaches to this area. This makes impossible the work of international experts trying to start work to establish the reasons behind the Boeing 777 crash.'
The fighting in eastern Ukraine prevented representatives of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe reaching the crash site on Tuesday for the third successive day.
The news came hours after Belarus announced it will host talks between Ukraine, Russia and the OSCE security and rights organisation on the crisis.
President Alexander Lukashenko's office did not state when the discussions would take place but Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko asked Lukashenko to host them on Thursday and to focus on securing access to the site where a Malaysian airliner was brought down in east Ukraine.
'Decisions are being made on a political level on ensuring safety on the site,' Michael Bociurkiw, a spokesman for the OSCE in Ukraine said on Wednesday.
An OSCE convoy had earlier on Wednesday been stopped by rebels about 10 km (six miles) outside the city of Donetsk because of fighting further along the route, but OSCE officials later denied it had been trying to reach the crash site....
There was no indication pro-Russian separatists fighting Ukraine's army would attend the talks, although Lukashenko's office said 'all interested sides' were invited.

Organization for Security and Cooperation,,, yeah, they always investigate planes that go down. They have nothing to do with FAA investigation work.
When I was stationed in [West] Germany in the late 70's, it was interesting to see how fast an abandoned car on the side of the road would get stripped - sometimes down to the frame, so I suspect the MH17 crash site was like an anthill that had been kicked over.
It may not be that simple.

The keyword is claim.
They've make alot of claims that people like you then run with as fact. Isn't that one of Alinsky's rules.
You do know that you only get so many letters for the title, don’t you???
Sure you do —
So I put the rest of the title at the top of the article in bold.
Is that okay???
Anyway — it’s just a title — the part about mining the shootdown site is in the article.
Did I miss anything???
Photos with borders drawn in wherever convenient aren't a mistake, that's deliberate. We'll see what the photos of the Ukraine Army launching SS-21s at Donetsk look like and where they draw the lines on them.
You know, they're sort of slow in releasing those even though the Pentagon already said they knew those missiles had been fired by the Ukraine Army. You guess they'll show the border with Russia as being halfway to Kiev? If so, will they tell the Ukraine Army to leave Russia rather than admit the photos are fake?
This is so silly it's gotten transparent. Now what ISIS and Hamas actions are in the open rather than in the buildup stage the Europeans and Ukraine will make nice with Russia and negotiate all sorts of things that no one thought they would. King Barry will say it was due to sanctions and everyone will cheer His Majesty King Barry as a tough international player just in time for the elections.
It's all been about misdirection since day one.
I've been parroting the same.
I'm keen to focus on the election, not this, or the border (let alone impeachment), BS...
Was it a copyright infringement? out of context violation? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?
They don't help "their cause", they just drive people away from discussion on FR by making FR look no different than the dozens of democrat fascist sites where anyone with a differing opinion is shouted down with name calling and BS evasions.
Why doesn't matter since they're repeating the the media and Obama party line while out of the other side of their mouths claim they know the media and Obama are liars that can never be trusted.
Regards
Too much “booby” not enough trap!

Nicely put and true...thanks.
....”the humanitarian/moral side”....
I imagine ‘all’ in that war-zone loosing life, and seeing life lost are pretty much focused on just staying alive.
I’ve not seen a war zone, (unless there’s an agreeable ceasefire all abide with and those are almost nonexistant), where a war stops to “investigate” deaths of any kind.
We forget that this war is not being fought as we might.....so those fighting it are going to go at it very differently in that part of the world...especially since most of the fighters are mostly of Russian descent one way or another, even though called Ukrainians....and they fight to win.
I understand what you’re saying, but the crash site didn’t strike me as strategic military ground, so I didn’t see what the purpose is in mining it.
Ukraine army was pinned down there at the time of the crash....I suspect they want to retain any ground they gain...so mining the area shouldn’t surprise any.
Further, how would any of us armchair folks really know what’s happening on the ground? Propaganda is so thick you can’t cut it with a knife now.
According to Google, it was of the kind of booby traps that come in pairs. See this illustrated blog post on booby-trapping enemy arms caches (photo #16).
Good points, I’ll admit.
Given that there's nothing left to loot I agree unless they're afraid someone would cart parts of the aircraft off to sell as scrap. Since I doubt there's much of a market in the present circumstances, the chance of that seems to be between slim to none.
