A Minnesota jury has awarded former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura $1.8 million Tuesday in his lawsuit against the estate of American Sniper author Chris Kyle.

On the sixth day of deliberations, the federal jury decided that the 2012 best-selling book defamed Ventura in its description of a bar fight in California in 2006.

Kyle wrote that he decked a man whom he later identified as Ventura after the man allegedly said the Navy SEALs 'deserve to lose a few.'

Ventura attorney David Bradley Olsen said he believes Kyle's estate has earned more than $6 million from the book, and suggested that $5 million to $15 million would be reasonable compensation for .. Ventura reputation.

What reputation? Oh, the loser, lowlife one? It'd take more than that to *repair* this miserable excuse for a human's reputation...and not 1¢ should come from Kyle's estate/family. Not 1¢.

Who the heck was picked for that jury...total idiots? Where is this widow supposed to come up with that kind of money? If Ventura had an ounce of decency he would refuse the award and be a real hero, but I’m certain he will happily leave this widow destitute.

This makes my blood boil. What a subhuman sleazebag.

If he thinks his name was tarnished by Kyle before, this is a far worse PR hit. Suing the family of a dead war hero, really? Doesn’t get any lower than that.

Ventura has always been a self-aggrandizing piece of crap. This only seals it.

Not sure what media you were reading, but the local press reported that the jury was shown a videotaped deposition Kyle did where he admitted that parts of his story weren’t true and that he tried to remove the story from the book after a friend told him he could be sued it was false. His publisher thought it was a great story, and Kyle agreed to keep it in.

The local media also reported that Kyle’s had plenty of witnesses but there were huge discrepancies between their stories and that in any event only one of them claimed to have seen the whole altercation and he admitted he’d had “15 to 20” drinks that night. In fact, most of Kyle’s witnesses admitted they’ve been drinking.

He may have won in a court of law, but he lost miserably in the court of public opinion. If any network decides to give him a new show we need to be very vocal about how we won’t watch it or buy from the companies that advertise on it. He thinks he won something today, lets show him how wrong he is.

While I’m not a fan of jury nullification, this makes me a fan of jury annihilation.

I consider trial by jury as the only anchor yet devised by man, by which a government can be held to the principles of its constitution.

The parts of the story NOT presented:

1. the drinking witnesses' "huge discrepancies" in their versions of the altercation,
2. the fact that only ONE person claimed to have seen the whole altercation,
3. and that HE, the only witness had consumed 15-20 drinks.

I can't have 15-20 drinks of anything, even water, before I would FLOAT away.

Well thought out, GrootheWanderer.

From September 11, 1969, to September 10, 1975, during the Vietnam War era, Ventura served in the United States Navy. Ventura graduated with BUD/S class 58 in December 1970[4] and was part of Underwater Demolition Team 12 (UDT).[5] The UDTs were merged with the US Navy SEALs in 1983, 8 years after Ventura had left the Navy.

Bill Salisbury, an attorney in San Diego and a former Navy SEAL officer, accused Ventura of “pretending” to be a SEAL and wrote that Ventura would be blurring an important distinction by claiming to be a SEAL when he was actually a frogman with the UDT. Compared to SEAL teams, UDTs saw less combat and took fewer casualties.[6][7][8] Following that, Governor Ventura’s office confirmed that Ventura was never a member of the SEALs. His spokesman stated that Ventura has never tried to convince people otherwise.[6] Ventura stated: “Today we refer to all of us as SEALs; that’s all it is.”[8]

Jackass Ventura was Never Ever a Navy Seal.

His tough guy routine is as fraudulent as everything else about him. A real man would have dropped his defamation lawsuit the minute he heard about the tragic death of Kyle. A real man with honor and integrity wouldn't even think about suing the widow and child of the dead Navy Seal. Only a puny douchebag with no balls would do something like that.

I remember reading Leon Uris’s, QB VII, when the Nazi doctor won his defamation case. They agreed his character was defames and awarded him the lowest coin of the realm.

The jury should award him 1 cent.
