Letter: Elect anyone but Pat Roberts for U.S. Senate

I believe government at the national level is not going to get any better until the congressional good old boys’ club is shut down and closed for good.

The antique fossils in both chambers are not the solution to today’s problems.

They are a big part of the problem. I ask you to vote for anyone running for the U.S. Senate other than Sen. Pat Roberts. Forty-seven years in office have kept him overpaid and underworked.

Government is not going to get any better. The tipping point was the enactment of the 17th Amendment to the Constitution.

What I can’t understand is why Rep Cummings is still on the committee investigating the IRS scandal .. when Cummings was involved in the scandal .. per his email which has already been exposed ..????

Anybody know what that’s all about ..?? He’s disruptive; acting like a child; insulting any repub who happens to state any FACT re the IRS issue.

Disgusting.

Pat Roberts has not been in office for 47 years. But, he has been in Washington for 47 years and has not lived in Kansas for all of that time. He moved to Washington to be a staffer for Congressman Keith Sebelius, Republican father in law of Kathleen Sebelius of Obamacare fame and former Governor of Kansas. Pat Roberts father was the Chairman of the Republican National Committee in the Eisenhower era. That’s how it works. Roberts got a job as a staffer that was turned into a seat in Congress when his boss, Keith Sebelius retired. He turned that into a Senate seat and now believes that it is his by hereditary right.

We need to put a stop to this. Is your phone number on Roberts iPhone? Of course not. But you can bet that the phone numbers of the Agri Business and Aviation industry lobbyists are on his iPhone. And he returns their phone calls.

I have decided to vote for Robert's opponent, Dr. Milton Wolf. Roberts really has not been all that bad for conservatives: He certainly is not in the same Quisling league as John McCain or Susan Collins, but it is time for him to step aside and let someone new take over.

I say if you are voting in the Aug 5th Kansas primary, vote for Dr. Wolf, a true constitutional conservative and tea party favorite.

I agree. Pat Roberts, Thad Cochran, they all need to go.

We've never needed term limits more than now.

I believe the country's future may well depend on getting these old fogies out of the House and Senate and installing some new blood. And, yes, I know that for folks like Cochran and Roberts they have little to do with the office. That's done by younger assistants. But the assistants have been there forever also.

“What’s Wolf’s record ?”

What’s Pat’s? FMJ, you still here beating that drum? So go ahead and vote for Pat if it gives you “comfort” that you are not going to see anything different, good or bad, and you are perpetuating the “old boys” in the Senate.

FYI, there are 26 Senators between the ages of 70 and 80 (Fineswine tops the list at 80 with the recent deaths of the rest of the octogenarians ). Considering their Senate “service” alone, these 26 people have been in the Senate for 498 years! Doesn’t that bother you enough to sent Pat packing? Being in the Senate is like being on death row in California. They will most likely die in office, particularly if there are very many voters like yourself. Maybe you can talk Bob Dole into running again since you seem so unwilling to vote for anything new.

Yes. This answer regarding Wolf's record is apparently as elusive as his cousin Zero's birth certificate. Nobody seems to be able to definitively confirm the facts about either. So, again, we know the record on Roberts: good, bad, and in between... what is Wolf's record ?

I guess that this is somewhat a pointless conversation. I don’t know all there is to know about Wolf. I’d like you to tell me just what “record” a newcomer to politics should have? Maybe he just woke up one morning and decided to run, never having been involved in any way in the past. What if there IS no there there? The sorry-assed job Roberts has been doing for many years is, somehow in your mind preferable to a new, untested candidate. I am sorry that that’s how you feel, but I am diametrically opposed to your line of thinking. Running a trained monkey against Roberts and winning would be a plus. And if the monkey turned out to be a RAT monkey, in GOP clothing, you can still get rid of him as soon as you could Roberts. Roberts does a lot of damage to the process just by being in the “old boy’s group.” Wolf would need a couple of terms to be able to do anything more than vote with the RATs, and if he did, he would be in good company in the GOP when you consider the entrenched RINOS that are already there (can you say Susan Collins).

Exactly. Whereas a real "fearless conservative fighter" who is seeking office for the first time would have a TRACK RECORD of promoting and campaigning for conservative causes as a private citizen for years.

Wolf's "fearless constitutional conservative" persona is a made up campaign creation, much like Barack Obama's "principled reformer who bridge the partisan divide" was.

If it’s pointless, it’s because no one can answer the question about the elusive Dr. Wolf’s record. If the man doesn’t have a voting record in office, what are his contributions and bonafides in the private sector in furthering the Conservative agenda ? If there is no “there” there, perhaps he should start building up a record BEFORE he jumps to a major office, one of the two highest federal ones in Kansas.

I take issue with the comments of Sen. Roberts’ doing a “sorry-assed” job. He’s been a fairly reliable Conservative, especially where the Senate is concerned, with a lifetime average of 86%. That he’s been in DC that long and still voting at that range is telling. Are you aware that he is the most Conservative person to occupy that Senate seat in decades ? He succeeded a liberal RINO, Nancy Kassebaum (1979-97). Kassebaum succeeded Jim Pearson (1962-78), a left-wing Socialist Republican who had an 84% leftist rating in his last year in office (he had started out mainstream and went left as the ‘60s went on). Pearson was closer to Ted Kennedy than to his junior Senator, Bob Dole.

With all these attacks and badmouthing of the man, you fellas need some perspective here about how Roberts finally brought some Conservative sanity back to that seat after decades of squishiness and flaky leftism.

To which I say, so what! It's not the ‘60’s, it's a half-century later. An 86% "lifetime" conservative rating doesn't mean much, when today he's around 60%. No one cares today what Roberts did back then, and even if he walked on water back then, it doesn't give him an unfettered “perpetual right” to the seat. I don't know if Wolf would be a good Senator, no one does. Maybe, he's not worth consideration. If that's the case, shame on the Kansas GOP for “deciding” to run the old boy one more time, rather than having someone you could endorse in waiting.
The real truth about the GOP the country over is that it's a bunch of old men who have no vision, no balls, and no fight in them. If there were a scintilla of energy in most of them, their ratings would not be in the toilet despite the despicable Obama Administration. All they want to do is hold the office. Don't you have any sort of a “bench” there? Are you really willing to cede this wonderful country to a bunch of has beens?
You have an opportunity that isn't open to me here in loony leftist California. The once strong CAGOP has managed to piss itself into extinction with complete a$$holes like Arnold the Awful. Even Orange County, once a conservative stronghold, has gone pretty much RAT. Remember, as we are now today, you soon will become if you don't start electing energetic new faces that everyone in your state can get behind.

"To which I say, so what! It's not the ‘60’s, it's a half-century later. An 86% "lifetime" conservative rating doesn't mean much, when today he's around 60%."

84%, actually, his score last year from the ACU. That put him to the right of the junior Senator, Moran, his House successor.

"No one cares today what Roberts did back then, and even if he walked on water back then, it doesn't give him an unfettered “perpetual right” to the seat."

I'm not talking about "back then." I'm talking about now. And where did I say he has the right to a perpetual hold on the seat ? I was the one that said I wished he had retired this year. He chose to stay.

"I don't know if Wolf would be a good Senator, no one does. Maybe, he's not worth consideration. If that's the case, shame on the Kansas GOP for “deciding” to run the old boy one more time, rather than having someone you could endorse in waiting."

You're making my point here about Wolf. We know nothing about him. But Roberts is not so horrid as to throw him out in favor of someone we know zero about (except his relationship to Zero). For all we know, he could be in tight with his cousin and told them, "Hey, cuz, how 'bout I run against you and see if the rubes will support me. Don't worry, I'll support your agenda as a Republican if I'm elected !" That would be reminiscent of when LBJ wanted a supermajority, he told his fellow Democrats to either campaign for or against him in order to get elected.

"The real truth about the GOP the country over is that it's a bunch of old men who have no vision, no balls, and no fight in them."

You're not entirely wrong. Of course, they'll fight like hell when it comes to preserving their power. Witness the epic-level corruption and fraud in the MS Senate race. They'll also fight to keep Conservatives from winning the Presidential nomination, witness the last two appalling sideshows in 2008 and 2012.

"If there were a scintilla of energy in most of them, their ratings would not be in the toilet despite the despicable Obama Administration. All they want to do is hold the office. Don't you have any sort of a “bench” there? Are you really willing to cede this wonderful country to a bunch of has beens?"

I love up and comers, but ones that have been properly vetted. Wolf hasn't been, and handing him a 6-year term when we have no definitive proof of what he will do with it is why I can't endorse him in this race. He's one of the few challengers this year to incumbent Republicans I have not endorsed.

"You have an opportunity that isn't open to me here in loony leftist California. The once strong CAGOP has managed to piss itself into extinction with complete a$$holes like Arnold the Awful. Even Orange County, once a conservative stronghold, has gone pretty much RAT. Remember, as we are now today, you soon will become if you don't start electing energetic new faces that everyone in your state can get behind."

We don't know what that opportunity is for Kansas, since we know nothing about the challenger. I'd rather have two Pat Roberts in my state of Tennessee, where we have 3 RINOs occupying both Senate seats and the Governorship. It's sad to see CA turn into the third-world hellhole that it has become. The CA GOP would rather pander to the left and run ringers for office rather than stand up and offer a real choice.

Sorry, no. I will not back “anybody” over a proven conservative Senator because Mark Levin thinks he’s a “good ole boy”. Not some random doctor guy who joked about his patients x-rays, who perhaps “woke up one morning” after no political involvement and decided he saw a US Senator in the mirror. Just in general I don’t trust people like that to be one of the 100 most powerful people in the country, the idea of replacing Roberts with him is a non-starter.

If you wanted to find a real candidate with a real rationale for running besides “politicians suck” (which is why I desperately wanna be one!!!) and “I’m Obama’s cousin”, who point out some actual shortcomings of Roberts, rather than claims he spends too much in DC, I would have listened to him.

Similar situation with Enzi, Enzi at least committed a majorish offense , championing the Internet sales tax, that’s enough for me to want to explore alternatives, but Club Levin put up a candidate to his left and said it didn’t matter because “He has to go!!” “He’s not a leader”!! And Cheney daughter’s not a conservative! Doy!! That was the most ridiculous races ever except maybe for this one.

What has Roberts done besides been there longer than you think is appropriate? Voting the conservative way for decades, what a bastard!!!!!

“Anybody” does not beat “somebody” especially when that somebody is somebody GOOD like Roberts (but even when they aren’t good, look at how easily Graham won against a weak State Senator and others, look at how McConnell, despite being unpopular, vanquished a lying and idiotic Paulbot challenger).

Conservatives to need to recruit “somebodies” and run them against people that actually deserve to be challenged. They were few Senators up this year LESS in need of a challenger than Pat Roberts and he has one and it’s this joker. Unreal.

Meanwhile RINO Lamar Alexander could lose in Tennessee to a conservative state Rep., if y’all aren’t too busy wasting your efforts trying to defeat one of the better Republican Senators in Kansas and replace him some guy.

Cindy Sheehan is "anybody". If she moved to Kansas and filed against Roberts in the GOP primary, would she have your support? I mean it doesn't matter if the challenger is LESS conservative, as long as they're NOT an incumbent and NOT part of the "GOP-E!!!", right?

Wolf doesn’t have a record. He is not a politician; he is a citizen candidate, as the founding fathers intended.

“In Kansas”??? He hasn’t been in Kansas since his kids were in Elementary School. He is the 3rd U.S. Senator from Virginia. Oh, but he did say he comes home “everytime I have an opponent”. If he does win the Primary and the General, we can still rest assured that one of these days, God will term limit his old, wrinkled butt.
