A prosecutor plans to charge a western Wisconsin police chief with a misdemeanor for allegedly registering a tea party leader on gay dating, pornography and federal health care websites.

Monroe County District Attorney Kevin Croninger told The Associated Press he plans to charge Town of Campbell Police Chief Tim Kelemen with misdemeanor unlawful use of a computerized communication system Thursday afternoon.

Kelemen would face up to $1,000 in fines and 90 days in jail if convicted, but would still be able to stay on as police chief. Only those with felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions related to domestic violence are precluded from being police officers, according to the state Department of Justice.

Then, Luce started receiving calls and emails from gay dating, porn and health care websites, according to police reports and court documents. La Crosse investigators tracked some of the activity to a computer at Kelemen's home and the Campbell town hall, according to an incident report.

He should have lost his emails and destroyed his hard drive.

That’s how they do it in Washington DC.

90 days in jail and he keeps his job? There are people who failed a background check because they had a public urination charge in their youth and this chucklehead keeps his job.

Nice to have such a mature adult in charge. Sounds like something a middle school student would do.

Anyone that thinks the police are conservative or are friends of the people are fools. First and foremost they are union people that work for the government and they seem to like to shoot dogs a lot.

“No! Wait, someone broke into my home and used my computer. And they broke into city hall and used my official police computer. Really.”

Don’t the Mayors usually have a say whether a Police chief stays or goes?

It’s also grounds for a civil lawsuit. Hope the Tea Partier hires a competent pit bull.

It all depends on the city charter. In some cities, it is the mayor, others it is the city council or the city manager.

The TEA Partier should personally sue that POS for defamation.

You are greatly exaggerating. Most street cops are not trigger-happy dog haters. They just trying to stay alive in a culture that judges everything they do on the basis of hindsight. They’ve been quite sympathetic when out-of-control kids have tried to get me in trouble with them.

How can a willful law breaker remain chief of police?

No, Obama’s Justice Department should open a civil rights violation investigation, this is a federal crime. A governmental official in a position of authority attempted to impede the free expression rights of a citizen.

Now, I ain’t gonna hold my breath or anything..............

You would use the law to oppose socialism? But it is upon the law that socialism itself relies. Socialists desire to practice legal plunder, not illegal plunder. Socialists, like all other monopolists, desire to make the law their own weapon. And when once the law is on the side of socialism, how can it be used against socialism? For when plunder is abetted by the law, it does not fear your courts, your gendarmes, and your prisons. Rather, it may call upon them for help. - Bastiat

No justice. The despicable "law enforcement" POS deserves a much harsher fate.

Varies everywhere. Sometimes it’s elective, sometime it’s appointment by the city council, sometimes it’s appointment by the mayor - don’t know what applies here.
