A Silicon Valley billionaires quixotic effort to split California into six separate states has moved closer to the ballot box with the submission of more than a million signatures to state election officials this week.
Tom Drapers plan to divide the Golden State up could be on the 2016 statewide ballot if enough of the signatures are certified.

“12 U.S. senators from the former California?”
Yeah, that’s the fly in the ointment. At least 11 of them would be Democrats. And that’s a certainty.
Here’s a poor guy that wants a national divorce.
I don't think so. Some of this was to get out from under liberal Sacramento control.
San Fran Nan...would most certainly be ONE of the 12
for that very reason... alone...I’m agin it
The way he's drawing the map, there would be three blue states, two red and one purple.
Yep. And what has this mega moron done? Ensured a MAMMOTH Dim turnout in 2016 in CA a State so Liberal that they tend to sit home.
What a fool.
Oh yeah, the Congress would never approve it EVEN if the voters did.
This is stupid on an unimaginable level.
There is no reason California cannot divide itself into six different governmental entities for all in state purposes, but they would still only get two U.S. Senators.
Which means the Senate breakdown might be what, 7-5 or so? That would be better than 2-0 by percentage basis ..
Interesting point, but why do you say that?
I was marginally involved with the “We Draw the Lines” initiative that redrew the electoral lines for California some years ago. The effort was to see if there was a way to dial back increasing Dem control of the CA legislature.
In that process, something like 52 electoral districts were redrawn and the strength of the Dem machine in CA was remarkably strengthened.
Republicans and conservatives have not the slightest concept of the machinations and manipulations that Dems and liberals are capable of pulling off in California (and I assume elsewhere)
Candidates for the panels that would redraw the districts had college professors write their “why I should be on the panel” essays for them. Candidates with very spotty command of the English language delivered A and A- college-grade papers with nearly flawless usage and prose. Obvious frauds. See, republicans seek an ethical, fair, “may the best man/woman win” contests. Democrats couldn’t care less about what it takes to achieve their ends, and they know well that whomever might prosecute them for their frauds and misdeeds is almost certainly a Dem themselves, not to mention any court officer or element of law enforcement who might bring charges in the first place, so this is just an odds-favored bet no matter what they pull. California is over.
Would like to learn more, what advantages there are to dividing into 6 states. It could actually help the GOP in presidential elections, as 2 or 3 of these new states might vote Republican and get at least some electoral votes from California.
Very interesting insight, thanks for sharing. I like the concept, but what you have said takes the fun out of it for sure.
The way HE is drawing the map may appear that way, but what will happen is, the process of redrawing the map will be hijacked and corrupted by Democrat forces of every description until they get lines drawn how they want them, by any means available, legal, ethical or not, and those delineations (and I know that sounds conspiratorial) will either stall in court or be adjusted until the Dem-desired results are produced. CA is absolutely owned by SEIU and other union interests. It is fully the equivalent of Chicago machine-type politics.
you would think that Southern and Central Valley will be repulibcans,
Old, old impression. It ain’t that way any more and isn’t likely to revert back to that way, the way it was all the way up through the 90’s, for 2 generations, minimum.

How about just commenting on the other posts instead of starting a new one?
I think we should split up New Hampshire instead.
Actually congress is stupid enough to pass it. At least republicans are.
What will happen is exactly nothing. The U.S. Constitution says that a state may be split only with the consent of its Legislature and the U.S. Congress, neither of which will approve this.
