Israel agreed Wednesday to halt its airstrikes on Gaza for five hours in order to allow humanitarian aid, following a request from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency.
It was not immediately clear when the cease-fire would begin.
A senior Israeli official who spoke to Reuters said a time for the 6-hour window has not yet been decided, but Israeli Brig Gen. Yoav Mordechai told the BBC that it would occur starting at 10 a.m. local time Thursday.
The cease-fire request came from U.N. Special Coordinator for the Middle East Robert Serry, Haaretz reports.
After news of the cease-fire broke, Israel’s “Iron Dome” missile defense system continued to intercept rockets heading toward Israel, the newspaper added.
Earlier in the day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on the international community to condemn the militant group Hamas for committing a “double war crime” of firing barrages of rockets at Israelis while using Palestinians as human shields.
Netanyahu, speaking at a news conference, said "Israel will continue to do what it needs to do to defend itself until peace and quiet are restored,” according to the Jerusalem Post.
He added that the demilitarization of Gaza is "most important step for the international community to insist on."

Maybe it's 3-4 AM, then 7:30 to 8:30 AM, and then 11:00-12:00, and 2:45-3:45, and ....

For months, Hamas has been practicing reloading in five hours or less.
May as well give up. They’re gonna lose. Big time.
Hamas doesn’t have any problem with that. They’ve shot off a bit over a thousand rockets and still have about six to seven thousand rockets left. This five hours won’t have the least little bit of an effect. The IDF knows this and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu knows this - and thus - it costs Israel ABSOLUTELY NOTHING and gives Israel great PR in the meantime.

NEW YORK — Ambassador Ron Dermer, Israel’s chief diplomatic representative in the U.S., asked some 700 American Jews on a conference call this week for their help shifting the messaging on Israel. Israel is being routinely portrayed in both conventional and social media as an angry, well-armed giant leaving many innocent victims in its wake during the current crisis with Hamas, Dermer said.
The call was organized by the Jewish Federations of North America, which this week sent federation leaders to visit targeted towns in Israel, and the Jewish Council for Public Affairs. Dermer told his audience that Hamas may be winning the war over public opinion, as Israel is vilified for the civilian casualties its bombs cause in Gaza, while Hamas is not being blamed for instructing Palestinians to stay in their homes – even when they have been warned by the IDF that the locations will be bombed imminently.
“Hamas is putting its missile batteries and command centers next to schools and hospitals. That is a major war crime. While we are doing everything possible to keep civilians out of harms way, Hamas is trying to put their people into harms way. Gaza’s interior minister said people should ignore warnings and go back into their homes. We are taking action to minimize to the greatest extent possible number of civilian casualties, they are doing everything to maximize it.”

We need to make ABSOLUTELY CLEAR when we talk about and support Israel, that it is NOT engaging in a GENOCIDAL CAMPAIGN against the Palestinian civilians - but that it’s HAMAS who is.
We must be STRONGLY EMPHATIC that Israel does NOT COMMIT WAR CRIMES against Palestinian civilians and explain the ways that Israel goes about avoiding collateral damage, while strongly attacking Hamas and its missiles that are flying into Israel.
If you believe that Israel should commit war crimes and engage in a GENOCIDAL CAMPAIGN against Palestinians — then just SHUT UP! ... because you’re doing Israel no favor with your genocidal talk!
The right wing in Israel is angry with BB. He is letting Hamas get more missiles out of their tunnel warehouses, and the Israelis haven’t even started Artillery and Tank shelling. Only occasional Naval guns firing.
In WWII the General in charge of bombing Dresden reminded everyone that All Germans supported bombing London and All Germans were therefore the enemy. I don’t see why when taking on elected Terrorist Hamas the general public should be allowed out they are terrorists, and can’t be watched to make sure they don’t commit acts of terrorism in Israel.
Hamas thanks BB for a lunch break and for paying for and leaving the lights on in Gaza.
They’ll get over it when Netanyahu shows the success that he’s bringing to Israel - against Hamas ... :-) ...
