I had know idea these subpoenas have no real legal authority. So, they are really just requests?

In light of those principles, and for reasons set forth below, Eggleston continued, tipping to advice provided to the White House by the Justice Departments Office of Legal Counsel, Mr. Simas is immune from congressional compulsion to testify on matters relating to his official duties and will not appear at the hearing Issas committee had scheduled for Wednesday morning.........Your turn Issa!

It might indeed be interesting if a gutsy, effective leader were in charge of the investigation.
But given Darryl Issa’s track record of non-accomplishment, it’ll probably be a big nothingburger. Like all the others so far.

The committees effort to compel Mr. Simass testimony threatens longstanding interests of the executive branch in preserving the presidents independence and autonomy, as well as his ability to obtain
candidate advice and counsel to aid him in the discharge of his constitutional duties, Eggleston wrote.

Well we now know that the Politico spellchecker works. But we're not surprised that their editors don't actually read the copy they publish.
To: mandaladon
This article did not, but I saw an article where the White House Counsel said there was precedent going back to Nixon, etc. Pretty interesting they would use that reference..
Keep chiseling away Issa. Let’s get them to claiming “Executive Privilege.” Even low info voters know Executive Privilege is code for guilty.

“immune from congressional compulsion to testify on matters relating to his official duties
Issa wants to compel Simas to testify about violations of the Hatch Act. Eggleston’s claim of immunity is an admission of guilt, since it means the White House defines criminal violations of the Hatch Act as “official duties”. I didn’t realize Simas had actually been advising the President about how to violate the Hatch Act as part of his job. The White House will do almost anything to avoid another public spectacle of their minions plead the Fifth.

“The jail in the capitol building has been closed since the bankruptcy of 1933. “
Then Issa should, very publicly, send in crews to fix it up and get it ready for some “visitors.” Just a little threat, ya know?

Didn’t the colonists hang more than a few tyrannical “agents of the crown” in the process of Revolution?

Just read a summary of the Hatch Act.
The democrat party is just one big violation of the Hatch Act.
It’s their entire election strategy.
