A Stockton couple is worried that they may face a bill of more than $70,000 for a hospital stay that was initially covered by insurance.
Their health plan, Anthem Blue Cross, sent them a letter last month telling them that their insurance coverage has been canceled retroactively, back to the first day of the year -- and that they may be responsible for paying bills for medical care during that time. We called Anthem Blue Cross, and they said, Well, we can cancel people whenever we want. We can do whatever we want, Xanttopulos said. A spokesman for Covered California did not answer questions from KCRA 3 Wednesday, but said the agency was looking into the matter.

I BLAME DEMOCRAT VOTERS!
Why not? Under this administration, freedom is routinely cancelled retroactively.
Because that's the way contracts work.
This kind of stuff is why people loath insurance companies.
And yet the torches and pitchforks still do not blanket the streets of America.
What will it take?
If they can do that, then what’s the point of having insurance? Why would a hospital take such insurance?
You don’t even know if you are insured.
Will Progressive retroactively cancel your car insurance 6 months after the accident?
How far can this go?
Can the insurers ask for money back that they paid already?
Can you get a bill for a 2 year old settled claim?
And if a person was not covered, do they get their premiums back?
Everything else is just gravy.
Cancelled retroactively even though they took yer money eh because you didn’t want to pay a claim? Hmm that sounds like breach of contract to me.
Statements like this don’t help; I realize it’s hearsay but it can still start the bricks in the wall to start crumbling for a company:
“We called Anthem Blue Cross, and they said, Well, we can cancel people whenever we want. We can do whatever we want, Xanttopulos said.
I’m sure BCBS will say their claims representative didn’t say that and then quitlh terminate their employment because that’s what they do. WH SOP as well.
Does it work in reverse? Should not policyholders be allowed to make insurance premiums for a year and then if we have no claims retroactively cancel and demand a full refund? Rinse, wash, and repeat with another insurance company.
Does the article clearly state *why* the insurance was being [retroactively] cancelled? I can’t see an explanation for it.
Is it a result of false information on the application?
I had a similar (but not nearly as expensive) experience with Anthem under my Obamacare policy. My wife was referred to a new physician for her physical condition and she confirmed twice that her visits with him would be covered and Anthem also confirmed to the Doctor’s office that his treatment would be covered. Relying on this, she had two office visits and followed up with the RX and treatment prescribed. After the expenses were incurred, Anthem said they were denying the claim they had previously approved. We are appealing this now.
> And yet the torches and pitchforks still do not blanket the streets of America.
What will it take?
Control and censorship of the Internet, particularly porn
Control and censorship of TV
Removal of gaming platforms from the markets
Removal of Facebook and other social media apps
Destruction of financial markets to remove protective bubbles
Culture shift away from hip hop and celebrity worship
So everyone will wakeup
That is why President Cruz’s first Executive Order will be overturning every Obama Executive Order.
I thought retroactive cancellations were illegal unless you were proven to have violated the terms, such as someone failing to report a pre-existing condition that affects coverage or lying on the application.
THAT was in Obamacare??? Hmmm, I guess it would have helped to read the bill before you take a vote on it.
Always begin every phone conversation with an insurance company by asking the name of the person you are speaking to and informing them that you are recording the phone call. Keeps them on their toes!
It probably would not hurt to ask for an email confirmation that you have been pre-approved.
And yet the torches and pitchforks still do not blanket the streets of America.
What will it take?
“When people lose everything and have nothing to lose, they lose it.”
We’re not there yet, but we will be. See my tag line.
My, my; that sounds like it came straight from Valerie Jarrett.
Crazy talk. People of America are too busy leaving their underwater mortgaged home in the morning, driving their new/semi-new car to work, getting that ever important paycheck, driving their new/semi-new car to the store to pick up beer, paying said mortgage and financed payments for said car and going home to watch American Idol/The Voice/The Bachelor. Clearly, FAR too much sacrifice involved with your pitchforks and torches.
/sarcasm
Retroactive cancellations were tort violations unless you could prove fraud existed to the best of my knowledge but now we live in Obamaland where up is down and black is white; truth is no longer absolute; it’s whatever you want to portray it as (not my version; theirs).
