Senate Dems introduce bill that would override Hobby Lobby ruling

Noah told you it was coming and now here it is. Pandermonium:

The bill, developed in consultation with the Obama administration, would require for-profit corporations like Hobby Lobby Stores to provide and pay for contraceptive coverage, along with other preventive services, under the Affordable Care Act…

“Your health care decisions are not your boss’s business,” said Senator Patty Murray, Democrat of Washington, who led efforts by Senate Democrats to respond to the court ruling. “Since the Supreme Court decided it will not protect women’s access to health care, I will.”…

Ms. Murray’s bill criticizes the Supreme Court’s majority opinion and repudiates it by declaring that “employers may not discriminate against their female employees” in coverage of preventive health services.

To this end, it says that an employer “shall not deny coverage of a specific health care item or service” where coverage is required under any provision of federal law. Moreover, it says, this requirement shall apply to employers notwithstanding the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

“Your health care decisions are not your boss’s business,” she huffed, while insisting that your boss pay for those decisions. Incidentally, I’ve seen some confusion online today about whether Congress can overturn a Supreme Court decision. Sure they can, if the decision is based on the Court’s interpretation of legislation rather than an interpretation of the Constitution. Congress can always change its own laws.

Why is such a bill required? I had heard that Zero was going to issue his own EO paying for the CONTRACEPTIVES.

We know why such a bill is required - the RAT party has to continue it's war on Republicans in prep for the Nov elections.

Notice the GOPE never tries to override SCOTUS decisions, even back when they had all of Congress and the White House.

why are they not shouting “it’s the law of the land!”?

liberals are perpetual teenagers. they’ve never gone the extra step to adult independence.

when it’s a law they like it’s the law of the land. don’t dare overturn it.

when it’s a law they hate, they can’t live by the law of the land. they then try to get around it.

if the courts are the problem they want the legislature to somehow override. if the legislature or the people amend their constitution they go to liberal courts to get laws’struck down.

if they are the majority they cite the will of the majority. if they are the minority they scream about the tyranny of the majority.

they are evil people. just gaming the system so they can legalize their wants and criminalize their opposition. they are like the bolsheviks always attacking the “mensheviks” - they even named themselves the majority and their enemies the minority - which it wasn’t true.

these people need to be destroyed. they aren’t placable and can’t take losing. they are a cancer on this country.

That’s because they’re merely serving as lapdogs for the DNC.

Sounds like the provision that was just overturned.

Dems make fun when the GOP does this.

So the feminist activists insist that their personal health decisions are their own business. O.K., fine. I can agree with that. But then they want to force someone else to pay for these decisions, thereby making it the business of the payers. Can one really be that dense? Or is it just plain ignorance? Or maybe selfishness?

“Your health care decisions are not your boss’s business,” said Senator Patty Murray, Democrat of Washington

The box of rocks is saying healthcare should not be provided by businesses. You should totally be responsible for your own health care. At least that's what I'm seeing in her comments.

Oh, what a target rich environment this could become.

I STRONGLY recommend that there be a full scale debate on both floors of Congress!

The first step would be to get the dimocrats to espouse the Constitutional bases for writing a law to overturn a Supreme Court decision.

Once that has been firmly established by all the players involved go through the various Supreme Court decisions that Conservatives have problems with, starting lets say with Roe v. Wade and going from there. When the dimocrats rise in objection have them explain how the Hobby Lobby decision is different from Roe v. Wade and any other such law brought up by Conservatives.

IMHO this could make a mockery of the liberals “war on women” Who knows we might actually be able to revisit some of the more irrational Supreme Court decisions.

Yes, a VLPE (very low probability event) but still just taking the shot would be fun!

RE: How do you “override” the First Amendment?

By arguing that what you are exercising violates the First Section of the 14th amendment.

Wouldn’t any law passed by congress have to repeal or modify the Religious Freedom Restoration Act?
