I work at a relatively-conservative state university but I hear the mantra 'diversity is our strength' repeated mindlessly all the time. I've confronted a couple of the worst offenders to guide me to strong academic study which shows that diversity improves the university in a material fashion on any non-bean-counting objective. My challenge has never been met.

The built-in flaw of diversity is the assumption that all ideas have equal merit.
