In light of last night’s election results in Mississippi, there is one question every conservative should be asking: how much longer can a party survive when its leadership is inexorably against the ethos of its base?
While Democrats harness their base supporters to advance the party’s liberal agenda, the Republican establishment works to undermine and disenfranchise its own base the minute they have pocketed their support in the general election. Now, after actively campaigning for Democrat votes in order to win against conservative Chris McDaniel in Mississippi, the GOP establishment has reached a new low in their treachery against those who embody the heart and soul of the party.
Based on the preliminary election results, it appears that the well-oiled campaign by the NRSC and Haley Barbour to turn out Democrat votes was more than enough to make the difference in last night’s primary. With roughly 60,000 more votes cast in the runoff than the primary, and an unprecedented surge in Democrat counties and precincts, it is almost certain that Chris McDaniel won the GOP vote while losing overall by about 6,400 votes.
Campaigning openly for Democrat votes in a GOP primary using issues and arguments contrary to the party platform is one thing. But the fact that they played the race card and ran mailers and robo calls in African American areas accusing their own party of being racist is downright despicable.
Hence, the NRSC and the GOP establishment essentially marshalled Democrat support to beat conservative voters in order to reelect an ineffective incumbent who is barely lucid and will very possibly never serve out his term.

BTW, you cannot call yourself a conservative if you support federal government funding of anything apart from the military. Education should not be a national agenda.

The ruling coalition is united around several things that the people are against. They are skilled at setting up phony issues (or issues that don’t concern the Federal government) to break up the formation of any possible other coalition.
Republicans and Democrats agree that the purpose of the State is redistribution. How much, and to whom, and under what circumstances, there are disagreements. But no elected officials of either Party believe that it is wrong to take from you and give to another of their own choosing, for reasons that make sense to them.
Republicans and Democrats agree that you have “rights” - lots of them. They also agree that any question ABOUT your “rights”, or whether or not something IS a “right”, should not be decided by a political process because that is “divisive”. So, they both agree that the voice of “the People” as contemplated in Articles IX and X can only be voiced by nine unelected life tenure judges, and that five of them, at any time or for any reason, can give new “rights” and take away old ones, particularly if those old ones arise out of majority voting.
Republicans and Democrats all believe in “diversity”. They, ignoring completely the results of all social science research on this subject, and contrary to millennia of human experience and wisdom, believe that the more “diverse” our country, its institutions, and any private entities within her become, the more cohesive and productive we will become.
Republicans and Democrats almost all believe in “free trade” and “immigration”. These things are good for various constituencies of both parties while they wreck the economy and the nation.
Many of the People, perhaps a majority, do not believe in any of these things. But in our existing system, captive as it is to the MSM-mandated “process” for choosing two candidates for POTUS neither of whom will change a thing, leaves the People with no voice.

I’m voting against McConnel for similar reasons, but you have a LOT more reason to vote for the rat in your state. This was downright creepy.

The GOPe does not understand the concept of ‘cumulative effect’. (They are not bright enough.) The bedrock issue here is abuse. The GOPe is, & has been, abusing the base for quite some time. They assume nothing bad will happen, even though with each instance their abuse intensifies. Yet they look back & see that nothing bad happened the first time they gave the base the middle finger. Or the second, or the third, etc. Like any abuser that has gotten away with it in the past, they figure they always will.
But at some point in these types of relationships the abusee snaps. They say ‘Enough!’. For some in the conservative base it has already happened. For others, last night did it. Still others will take a bit more abuse before they reach their limit. But it is cumulative. It adds up. The GOPe is sowing the wind, & will reap the whirlwind. It’s just a question of when. Last night brought the day of reckoning significantly closer.

I live in MA, not MS. But the republican party here is just as corrupt and would use democrats to stop conservatives if they had to. We are the common enemy.
I'm not sure that's the case -- it may be doable on the local-level, but I just don't see it happening on the national level... the problem is essentially that for every "good" (stand-for-something) guy we put in we get an order of magnitude more "toe-the-line"-politicians, and the Republican party, as a whole and on the national-level, has shown that it has not intention whatsoever for pursuing its platform planks.

I’ve read that a write-in is possible and permitted. I’d encourage it. Every conservative could vote for McDaniel and Cochran could then be free to get reelected with the moderates and democrats he loves so much.

Until the idea that a representative’s sole job is to “work for the state/district” which seems to mean “bring in feral ‘gimme’ dollars,” the die is cast.

When it comes to the TEA party, the GOPe’s attitude about democrats is “The enemy of the enemy is my friend”. And suddenly the GOPe and D’s have removed all doubt about what is really going on.
They have been playing “good cop, bad cop” with us for who knows how long.
We tried to take the party back last night.
We got out numbered by RINO’s and RATs.

For that reason alone I find Sen. Cochran’s actions to be dispicable. Absolutely without excuse.
Why aren’t these establishment types this hardball with the Democrats for goodness sakes!?
Like most of you I am disappointed but as a Texan, I do want us to take the Senate in 2014 because it will give my Senator Cruz a larger platform. I so wish we could have run someone better against Cornyn but I’ll still vote for him because I WANT THE MAJORITY.
