WASHINGTON The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States is calling for a nationwide boycott of Mexican products and travel until Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi is released from a Mexican jail.
This combat Marine has been languishing away since he was arrested March 31 for allegedly crossing the border accidentally with three personal firearms that were legally registered in the States but not in Mexico, said VFW National Commander William A. Thien. It was a mistake, but so is the Mexican governments reluctance to release him unharmed back to the U.S.
As Americas oldest and largest major combat veterans organization, the VFW wants to apply economic pressure to the Mexican government because Tahmooressis arrest and captivity is mirroring that of former Marine Jon Hammer, who was arrested for carrying an antique shotgun across the border in August 2012, despite having proper American paperwork. He wasnt released until four months later.
Thien said the VFW tried the politically polite route by twice asking President Obama to contact Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, but a phone call specifically about the Marine sergeant never took place. Now that Tahmooressi is approaching his third full month in jail, the VFW national commander said its time to take the gloves off.
"This is about politics, and if my government wont do anything, then I guess we need to let the power of the purse take over. No products, no travel, a total boycott
then maybe a dialogue will start.
Of course he's been busy supporting the Muslim Brotherhood and al Qaeda sects in Egypt and Syria as well as his fundraising and golfing.
Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi Ping!
I propose a fair exchange: they send us Tahmooressi, and we send them 15 million Mexicans living illegally in the U.S.
And who says the VFW does nothing but operate bingo halls?
That’d sure work for me.
Look at what Tahmooressi was arrested for. Having guns. Obama wants to lock all of us up for that. When things are going bad for 0, all he has to do is remember a white boy sitting in a Mexican prison for owning guns. Small moments of joy.
Count on it. Not only will I not visit Mexico, but I will also not buy its products. One of my hobbies is coffee roasting, so Mexican beans are out. (I did the same with Sumatra when they gave us hell after their tsunami for helping them.) I probably spend a thousand a year on various green beans from around the world.
I’m not in the market for a car, many of which are either assembled or parted in Mexico. Refusing Mexico in terms of automobiles with any semblance of Mexican contribution in their manufacture would hurt Mexico and make them think.
I, of course, will now buy all my drugs from Columbian cartels. (/sarc...NSA, I was just kidding!)
Have you won lately? :-)
Thanks for your service!
What took so long? Nothing should be easier than finding ways to pressure Mexico into releasing this soldier.
No S*it!
Ditto here.
To boycott products (legal ones:) from Mexico takes a little effort but not as much as products from China.
Yeah, I alreayd boycott all fresh produce from Mexico, but that is mostly due to a sense of self preservation.
I know it’s only a dream, but what if a whole bunch of Marines (no longer on active duty), swarmed over the border and rescued their fellow Marine? That would even make a swell movie.
I was thinking the same thing. Remember when Ross Perot hired some ex-military guys to go find his people in Southeast Asia? There are plenty of ex-SEALs and other SpecOps guys out there who could mount an infil and extract mission. And screw Mexico. And Obama the traitor.
Why don’t the Marines just go down there and get their Man?
FBO.
Also need to boycott any travel to mehico. Me, I quit going years ago. Americans are fools for going there anymore.
My dad emailed me saying he went to the local Fred Meyer food store and they were having a Mexican something or other. He walked up to the manager, gave him his “venting” and said he and none of his acquaintances will buy here until that sale thing is over with. Next day it was gone. He said there was a lot of anger over it.
The best coffee comes from the USA--Kona from Hawaii and Green Mountain from Vermont.
So far as I know, Hawaii has the only commercially grown coffee in the 50 states. Puerto Rico grows some, and maybe Guam has a little, but none of the other states really has the climate for it.
Hershey’s moved their operation from Pa. to Mexico a couple of years ago. No more of their wares till the Sgt. is out.
Mrs. jaz was talking about that a few days ago.
Mexico holding Sgt. Tahmooressi over this shows just how corrupt their government really is and what weak sisters the 0bama administration are.
