Police Tuesday identified the man who died after falling or being pulled into a wood chipper at a work site in Davie.
Hernan Gutierrez, 42, whose last known address was in Hallandale Beach worked for Tree Techs, Inc. of Pembroke Pines, according to Davie Police Capt. Dale Engle.
Police and federal occupational safety officials are continuing to investigate the incident.
Gutierrez and two co-workers were clearing debris on Southwest 57th Street near Pine Island Road around 4:15 p.m. Monday when he went through the machine that Engle described as industrial size.
The tree trimming work was taking place on the property of Federation Gardens, an 80-unit affordable housing apartment building for seniors, according to management agent John Sharkey.

That must have stung a bit.
Don’t worry, Obama has a million more replacements at the border.
The caution sign was clearly marked in English.
My neighbor had some trees cut down several months ago and I watched how the wood chipper took large limbs and spit them out into mulch in two seconds. Horrible to even think about a human being.
Head first would be the quickest. Feet first...I don’t even want to think about that.
It was quick.
I worked at a paper mill once that had a giant stainless steel blender 10-12 across, 8 feet deep and blades like airplane props for use in blending up bales of pure white paper to add to the slurry if the color had to be adjusted.
A narrow catwalk with a low rail around the top brought to mind a fear of that white slurry turning pink.
saddam’s boys used to feed people they were pissed at for whatever reason feet first into a plastic shredder at a factory while Family were forced to watch and listen. Same basic machine.
Sick SOB’s too bad Our Guys took them out fast with rockets, due process should have let the Iraqi’s do the same to those scumballs.
This Guy probably went in arm/head first so it was at least quick.
RIP
you know,,, I actually enjoyed the new series..
That was one of Saddam “Hussein’s” favorite tools.
Your post were the exact words that came to my mind too. Horrible indeed. My brother had his arm severed in a rock quarry conveyor belt which caught his shirt cuff in a pulley. His co-workers saved his life and he nearly bled to death.
Wouldn’t have even slowed it down.
Only a second or two feed rate so it was quick either way. Not saying that makes this ant better.
I worked for an attorney who represented a 19 year old guy who lost his arm at a saw mill. The owner didn’t have worker’s comp insurance and the kid was working under the table. The owner of the company was supposed to pay the kid’s medical bills and damages. He paid a little but last I heard he had stopped paying. It was really sad. Some occupations just aren’t worth the money.
Real life horror movie.
He got lucky.
That is why there are Rules around machines.
