The agencies said their needs are too different and manufacturers are not yet ready to build trains that can run on both Amtrak's 100-year-old rail lines and the high-speed corridors planned for California's system.

Several unfavorable court rulings have also delayed work. In the most high-profile case, a Sacramento County Superior Court judge halted the sale of $8.6 billion in state rail bonds and ordered the state to write a new funding plan, delaying work on the first 28-mile segment from Madera to Fresno. The state has appealed.
But the $108 billion budget that Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown signed Friday includes a $250 million gift for the project in the coming fiscal year from the state's cap-and-trade greenhouse-gas emissions fund and

The only high speed rail anything that would be profitable is the one from the Mexican Border to Los Angeles and they actually made the illegals pay cash for their ride.
Evacuate the middle of the country and herd all the human livestock to high-rise containment facilities on both coasts.
Connect the high-rise containment facilities with high-speed rail.
Just like Hunger Games.
“You mean two boondoggles cannot coexist? “
No. They will coexist. They just won’t run on same tracks.
Actually a union payoff using money involuntarily seized from the taxpayers for other purposes. Libs are always so generous with OPM.
LOL
Cancel the whole thing and refund to the taxpayers!
If they can pay for it with Federal funds, it will be free, so it will be good for the economy. They could also set very high tolls on the competing roads — that would also be free, and would help the economy. Add in huge gas taxes, which cost nothing, and you have the stage for an economic miracle. This is a win, win, win for us all. I can’t believe how smart we all are. Oh, and also, more free stuff, they should not charge fares for anyone under 30, over 40, unemployed, of color, undocumented, who smells, or has live chickens, because this would all be free and would cost nothing.
Cal High-Speed Rail is a mighty dumb road,
Cal High-Speed Rail’s gonna take some bribes
Cal High-Speed Rail is a mighty dumb road

Amtrak train on a high-speed track
It’s already cancelled, but you’ll see it back
Note to Gov. Brown.
Just because you are a Democratic ‘chump’ does not mean that by gifting the grifters you favor with $250,000,000 will cause the rest of us to allow the FedGov to dump any of our money into your rail delusion.
In the total cost of that rail delusion, your $250,000,000 is mere ‘chump change’ - got that, “Chump”?
williegreen memorial and hi-speed choo-choo ping
They are understated the costs. The only way can cut the costs down by using the old rail line. The court made the right ruling.
Nice to see McCarthy blocking it...maybe we can do business with him after.
In the end, if California REALLY WANTS a high-speed train, they have an economy large enough to build it themselves, and that’s what they should be doing.
“This high-speed rail is cheaper than more freeway lanes and more airport runways,” Brown said Friday.”
The First Amendments protects the right of politicians to tell BLATANT LIES...and this is one of them. The cost comparison is not even close.
