Central American immigrant parents agonize when child crosses border alone

Like many immigrant parents of Central American children who cross the U.S.-Mexico border alone, Elva Marroquin Rosales is now in agony over what became of her two small youngsters who dared to enter the United States illegally by crossing Rio Grande River.

For two or three weeks, the Los Angeles area mother heard nothing about her son Angel, 10, and daughter Dulce, 7. It's a silence many Central American families in the United States endure, wondering for weeks or even months if their child is alive or dead.

Then, Marroquin finally heard word about two weeks ago: she received a phone call from an "immigration" official in Texas who desperately sought the mother's voice in order to calm her two sobbing children, who were apparently in a detention facility.

"My children were heartbroken, sad, tearful, crying beyond comparison, begging me to take them out of there," Marroquin, 25, said. "Their begging was so distressing because I couldn't run to get them."

Since then, Marroquin has been unable to track down the detention facility in Texas that called her, and now the angst of her children's absence goes on, day after day.

I thought so too. Never in a million years would I have sent my children alone into such a dangerous situation. It’s not just abandonment, it’s cruelty, neglect, endangerment and certainly, it was clearly done with “malice aforethought.”

The mother is a felon. And not just for having apparently gotten into the U.S. illegally.

That is a great idea. The children are very likely adorable (although I wonder about serious psychological abandonment issues) and there are so many couples who want desperately to care for a child of their own.

People go NUTS if a child is left unattended in a car for one minute in this country and I’m expected to feel sorry for this woman? Not on your life.

When I was in college I had a friend who worked for an organization that spent all its time bringing in Somalis and Hmong and Serbians and anybody else who wanted in. I always felt that was cowardly. If you really want to help them, go over there and help them straighten out their country, don’t bring them over here and turn us into Somalia.

Here’s how it works in my town - unfortunately:

Daddy has two women w/ two families - one in Guatemala, one in FL. The wife in FL spits out a kid every 14 months - like clockwork.

The women shop in Walmart w/ ebt cards like it’s their God given right. If their kids get sick, they just wheel them down on the stroller to the emergency room. Front of the line - no charge.

The men drive cars and even if they get pulled over w/ no license (which happens a lot), nothing ever comes of it. They might spend 3-4 days in the detention center and lose the car, but they’ll just start all over again.

Usually there is a shady attorney that handles their benefits and taxes and gets them an ITIN number. This allows businesses to hire them and actually withold their federal taxes.

Then the attorney really gets creative with the tax returns - EITC fraud even in this little town would probably blow all our minds. This is where we are getting clobbered.

All the while, the illegal sends 1/2 his pay back to Guatemala - through western union.

Who are separating the illegal migrants families? Certainly, not the U.S., parents sent their kids to U.S. alone to confront possible death, rape and all kind of abuse by the human traffic cartel and when the head of migrant families who are already living illegally in U.S. are deported, instead of taking with them their children they opt for the breaking of their family and abandon their children in a foreign country while demanding that in the name of “family reunification” the U.S. must respect their human right to invade our country.
