Slang used primarily by the British. Also used in the former Confederate states to refer to people of the Union states. Origins can be traced to the Ottowa Indians calling the English, "Yang-gees," which morphed into "Yankees" by the British who then took that home after the French and Indian war in 1763.
Cincinnati Reds could be short for Redskins.

Banning is insufficient. It’s time to execute the entire team prior to the first inning. By the fifth inning, the Mariners will have scored...
I have a real problem with calling a team the “Vikings.” It is disrespectful to people of Nordic heritage.

To a Brit, a Yankee is a person from America.
To an American, a Yankee is a person from the North.
To a Northerner, a Yankee is a person from New England.
To New Englander, a Yankee is a person from Vermont.
To a Vermonter, a Yankee is a person who likes to have pie for breakfast.
I know. I was just playing the PC witch hunt game.
Longing for the days when Americans were good-naturedly divided between Damn Yankees and F—king Rebels.
“Yankee is similar to the Chinese for English: ying guo.”
I didn’t know that. But I would imagine that maybe the Chinese is imitating “yankee.”
I know, for example, that in Thai, a westerner is called a “farang.” That comes from “france.” Maybe 150 years ago Thais lumped all white westerners together and called them “french.”
Now I don’r care who you are, that right there is funny.
all the best
Maybe we rename the Vikings the Moose ...
believe the reference to New Zealanders being kiwis is from the kiwi bird (native only to New Zealand), not the fruit.
Now you’re making fun of my sister. It was serious. No, really.
If Red is bad why isn’t Black or White?
Yellow hordes
Well just in case, the New Zealanders should start a movement.
And surely don't forget "crackerass cracker". /s
Watch it, Wolfpat. I resemble that remark! ;^)
