ISIS moving seized US tanks, Humvees to Syria

Syrian and Iraqi terrorist forces obtained significant numbers of tanks, trucks, and U.S.-origin Humvees in recent military operations in Iraq and those arms are being shipped to al Qaeda rebels in Syria, according to U.S. officials.

U.S. intelligence agencies reported this week that photos of the equipment transfers were posted online by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), also known as ISIS, the ultra-violent terror group that broke away from al Qaeda but shares its goals and philosophy.

Well duh. We left them there rather than paying to ship them back. Yup, that was a real smart move. Kinda like selling them some F-16’s a week or so ago. Yeah, that won’t turn out bad or anything.

Uhh... If they have ACTUAL tanks they would have been procured via Russia from an Iraqi government purchase or leftover from Saddam and re-purposed. I could guarantee you there are no American main battle tanks in ISIS hands.

Arming them was what Obama wanted all along.

Syria is job one for them. I think ISIS will accept a draw in Baghdad. They really want to reduce the Maliki government to a nullity, then set up their caliphate in the heavily Sunni areas of northern Iraq and Syria. They figure Iran will have the Shiite south.

It’s really bad when you have to depend on Assad and Putin to get the job done.

Just reinforcing the ones Obama had shipped to Libya after Benghazi where they were left unguarded and “stolen”.

Having a main battle tank is a very small piece of the puzzle. They require tons of maintenance, and require tons of supplies to operate and engage in battle. These functions require skilled/trained people and a huge logistical supply line.

Then you’re looking at all the skills it takes to operate such sophisticated technology in battle. Most of these ISIS guys can’t read or write.

So in the end a tank in the wrong hands is a 60 ton lawn ornament.

It would seem to me a 60 ton vehicle moving down some desert road toward Syrah would make an easy target were one of the opinion to do so.

If ISIS has US-trained turncoats from Iraq, they might have some expertise.

"Insurgent Offensive Bogs Down After Capturing US Humvees"

“In the name of the Blessed Prophet, these things are death traps!” exclaimed one of Al-Rahman’s fighters. “How the hell could anyone drive these things around a parking lot, let alone into a combat zone?”

There are 140 M1 Abrams in Iraq. I would not be so sure of that guarantee.

True. But who says its going to be ISIS guys inside the tanks when they are used against the Syrian Army.

I cannot help but wonder if maybe Obama has found a backdoor way to supply the al Quaeda rebels in Syria.

They estimate that there are 500 citizens of England fighting for ISIS. God knows how many Americans from the likes of Dearbornistan et al.
