The Pentagon Thursday said Islamic militants in Iraq might have captured U.S. equipment and vehicles as an al-Qaeda linked group advanced toward Baghdad.
Members of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), which has seized control of two major cities, have been posting pictures on Twitter, claiming to have taken equipment given or sold by the U.S. to the Iraqi army.
ADVERTISEMENT A defense official said claims the group had captured a U.S. Army Blackhawk helicopter were wrong, but that Humvees and armored vehicles might have fallen into the militants' hands.
"I don't have any indication that the reports of them getting Humvees from Mosul are false," said the official.
"It's something that we are consulting the Iraqi government on, as part of our overall consultations with them to get a clear picture of what's happening," the official added.

Thank you for clarifying this with expertise.
There’s a good reason why the U.S. has not “won” a war since 1945. The U.S. has effectively become a global empire in the post-WW2 era, and it makes no sense to obliterate an enemy when the sole purpose of going to war with him is to do business with him afterward.
You're right about that. I just sit here and rattle off a list of things that were passed by a Republican Congress and signed into law by that dope -- none of which would ever have been supported by anyone with half a brain here on FreeRepublic if it was Democrats who were in charge at the time:
The Patriot Act ... Medicare prescription drugs ... "No Child Left Behind" ... ethanol mandates for fuel ... massive bank bailouts ... etc., etc.
Musollini made the trains run time, Hitler didn’t have any street crime.
But for OUR interests, Sadamm was selling weapons and funding terrorists outside Iraq. Can yoou say Al quida?
For the U.S. government to wage a stupid "war on terror" without toppling every one of those governments should have been the first clue that something is rotten in Washington.
I couldn’t agree more. It’s as though Bush is responsible for all of the policy changes of the last 5 years that lead to this and the fact Obama just sat on his hands doing nothing while this group began its march across Iraq. This should not have gotten anywhere near to this point before action was taken to nip it in the bud and would not have with any other administration...probably not even Jimmy Carter.
Attacking the messenger is the last resort of a liberal. This begins right after the liberal is shown the facts. Which one of us stated facts, and which one of us resorted to attacking the messenger?
To me the fact they all look pretty much the same indicates state sponsored terrorist. They want them to look like an army not terrorist, but who paid for it?
Are we seeing some of that $6 billion that went missing from Hillary’s State Dept.?
NBC ran a brief clip of US vehicles given up by our ‘allies.”
“The United States continues to have a large diplomatic presence in the country, along with about 100 Marines and 100 high-level institutional trainers — nearly all in Baghdad. There is also a smaller U.S. Consulate in Erbil.”
GET THEM OUT or is there a bigger Benghazi planned?????
I ain’t got a clue about expertise, but all overseas stations have Status-of-Forces-Agreement. BHO said full withdrawal, no SOFA.
Having a SOFA in place means folk will be stationed in country ‘til whenever...
SOFA put limitations on what personnel, and dependents can do and where they can go...usually more restrictive than local law.
LOL
We ready here
Got NO shortage of MK here
True, but they did have the Gladius Hispaniensis Sword, Plate Armor and a Professional Military Force.
The Roman Legionnaire was superseded by Calvary with Stirrups, which meant Lancers and Calvary Archers.
And 50,000 of them defeated 250,000 Celts .....
I think it’s a LOT more than the $6 billion that disappeared.
Today, Rush was reeling off a list of various terrorists organizations and the hundreds of millions of dollars they operate off of annually. They could almost be “small country” GDP’s.
I am talking about the 3rd 4th and 5th Centuries when the Huns and Goths came.
And when much of the Roman Army were Goth Soldiers themselves.
Gone were the Legions of Caesar, the Roman Army had been.......Fundamentally Transformed.
Really love reading that early history. I also like reading about London in the 1600’s. A book titled “An Instance of the Fingerpost” a historical novel set in 1663 -
I have never read that one, sounds interesting, I will have to track it down. :)
It’s kinda thick. It involves a murder as seen from five different view points, five different people. It includes of course Cromwell and his secret agents. Quite well done. The thing I liked about it was the way the author brought to life London in that time period.
