The A-10 has been on the chopping AF block for years but a few intelligent politicians won’t let them retire the A-10. The Air Force wants only sexy, $200 million airplanes, not ugly $10 million airplanes.

But just like Benghazi, there will be no Command Authority decision to drop a twinkie.

"Hagel added, the A-10 is no longer needed because the Air Force has alternatives available to it. “As we saw in Iraq and Afganistan, the advent of precision munitions means that many more types of aircraft can now provide effective close air support,” he said."

And form the Dud department

"Five American service members were killed in southern Afghanistan when a coalition jet (B1), called in to help ward off a Taliban attack, mistakenly bombed them, an Afghan official said Tuesday.

So now we are using B1 bombers for close air support the job the A10 was designed to do? Or leaders are either clueless or criminal.

Wiki A10 "The Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II is an American twin-engine, straight-wing jet aircraft developed by Fairchild-Republic in the early 1970s. The only United States Air Force aircraft designed solely for close air support of ground forces, the A-10 was built to attack tanks, armored vehicles, and other ground targets with limited air defenses.

Wiki B1 "The Rockwell (now part of Boeing) B-1 Lancer[N 1] is a four-engine supersonic variable-sweep wing, jet-powered strategic bomber used by the United States Air Force"
